Proof in the Pudding
This is a brilliant item, although I may not be using it as intended. It is very sturdy, and were you to fill it with peanuts I doubt even the brightest of squirrels would be able to open it. Unless they developed like those monkeys do in that film where Mark Wahlberg played Charlton Heston. It is also very versatile. For instance I believe in fairies (a bit like these people who believe in ghosts, or those new age sanctimonious know-it-all types who feed their dogs a vegan diet).Anyway I don't trust them. I mean if fairies are infesting my back garden then they are, in my opinion, vermin.A bit like vegans really.Anyway, just like other cultures that use totems and dream catchers and stuff, I decided that a more 'shock and awe' approach was required to deter these fairy pests.First off I bought a brush cutter and hacked down all vegetation so they have nowhere to hide, in a sort of 'slash and burn' approach.Secondly I have laid traps, dug little pits for them to fall in, and put rat poison down. Finally, as a warning to these mythical monsters I got this cage and went all 'Ving Rhames/medieval' on the problem.I then got my Action Man, and put him on a makeshift rack that me and Matt made out of an old ironing board and some spare bike parts. His joints dislocated (the Action Man's not Matt's) , I then placed the Action Man in this cage and hung it from a branch on the apple tree by the pond, as an example to others. It must be working as I haven't seen a fairy since, or a vegan for that matter.Actually thinking about it maybe I'm being a bit harsh, at least fairies don't do any damage.

Does the job. Pleased with it.
Keeps the squirrels off and lets the song birds in. Larger birds like Woodpeckers and Starlings can use it too. Easy to set up and put feed in etc. Pleased with the product.

Exclusive eating station for birds!!!( Only one visitor so far !)
Purchased this Tom Chambers Squirrel proof peanut feeder which was a good value price. It certainly is keeping the squirrels at bay but disappointingly have only seen one Blue Tit visit in the two weeks that it has been in my garden. The item is well made and my only negative is that it is very difficult to fill the central cage area where the peanuts are stored without spilling the, all over the ground. I am hoping that the small birds will soon decide to try it out as my husband went to great lengths (and injury) when he fixed a bracket to a tree for the feeder to be in a natural environment for the birds!!!

this product is fiddly to deal with
it has clips at the bottom making it very difficult to add the birdfood then clip all three clips at the bottom - would not recommend this product for people with dexterity issues - very fiddly

Keeps squirrels out
Does a great job of deterring my local squirrels, but for strange reason the small birds don't seem to bother with the peanuts which is no fault of the feeder.

Squirrels and Magpie's have not defeated it so far
It is taking time for the small birds to accept it. nuts exposed to rain, and not sure it will be easy to clean. addition of a squirrel baffle above it protects it from the weather and additional squirrel protection.

Great Idea - but one major flaw
We live in the country and have a lot of visiting birds - and hungry squirrels.Prior to purchasing this product the squirrels had gnawed through the steel wire of the regular nut feeder, and were taking more than their fair share, so this product seemed like the answer. It is easy to assemble, and to be fair does keep the squirrels at bay, but no other birds seemed able to get much nut action. After two weeks the nut level had hardly decreased at all, and on closer inspection my conclusion was that the mesh holding the nuts is too small. Having then compared it to the wreckage of the previous feeder my suspicions were verified. So - in a nutshell, it does keep squirrels out, but is not really functioning as a feeder for other small birds. After emptying a solid lump of moldy nuts into the bin I have now dispensed with the squirrel proof cage and left it hanging for whoever can fathom out how to feed from it. My bets are on the squirrels - but I'd rather they had the nuts than throw them away. Bit of a waste of money.
