It's perfect for what I need it for

This review is for the THROUGH JUNGLE AND DESERT expansion to Memoir '44. This is the second installment in the Battle Map Series II... ... and what an awesome expansion this is. Worth getting simply for the Bardia scenario in North Africa and the Jungle and Desert Combat Card decks. I absolutely love the new combat cards, new and updated rules for Combat Card use in standard scenarios and Overlord scenarios, and the battle maps themselves. I had a lot of fun using the Special Operations expansion packs in conjunction with some of the scenarios in the Through Jungle and Desert expansion, particularly the Guadalcanal, and Operation Lightfoot Overlord scenarios. The latter two and the Bardia standard scenario have become classics in my gaming club. DISCLAIMER: The battle or scenario displayed in the pictures is BARDIA from this THROUGH JUNGLE AND DESERT expansion. This expansion does not come with painted miniatures. I have painted each and every single one of these plastic miniatures as you can see in the pictures shown in this review. This THROUGH JUNGLE AND DESERT expansion does not include the SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMBAT CARDS that might be seen in the photographs, you may purchase those separately. Enjoy and GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

This now completes my collection of all Memoir 44 expansions. It is a great variety of scenarios. I promptly take these map sheets down to the local printer to have them laminated. This helps preserve them from being worn and possibly ripping.

good expansion

For the Memoir Completist. Cards are two decks. One deck in French and other in english.

I love Memoir '44. I want to play more games that connect and offer a connected through-line. The title "Through Jungle and Desert" did make me think I was buying a series of maps that took me from one to the other: a march so to speak. What is in the box or bag I should say is not that at all. Sure you can play one mission that connects to the next if you buy another map set and you really need a few other sets to play this game, not just a base set or even two base sets. I would like the packaging to be clear of what you are getting and what you need to play this handful of maps. Very disappointed. Ended up just buying the PDF of the first campaign book on the Days of Wonder website for 15$. If you don't care about a story line or a connected game play and just want more maps and have almost everything for M'44 then this is for you, if not then it isn't.

The Combat Cards are a very good addition to the game, since the first two decks (in Sword of Stalingrad and Winter Wars). I would prefer the standard maps in a campaign booklet instead of pre-printed, but in general is a very good battle map. And if you like the game, buy before is too late! Days of Wonder isn't know for Battle Map reprints, so if you wait too much, be prepared to pay ridiculous amounts of money for them in the future.
