Handy tool for high branches, good cutting edge
This is great for trimming relatively thick branches otherwise out of reach, either from the floor or on some steps. The blade is good, build is good, sturdy but light. There are a couple of ways to make the cut, there is a chain driven action which you engage halfway down the shaft with a collar, or a toggle at the bottom end, both of which produce quite a cutting force at the head. I'd say you can do 3cm (2inch) branches without too much effort. There's a guide hook, the blade is sharp, its easy to manouver, very effective tool. Secateurs on a stick essentially, but a bit bigger and with a pulling motion to make the cut. Doubles my height effectively.

A pleasure to use and worth twice the money.
Nothing more to say apart from absolutley chuffed with this item. Its a pleasure to use and it meant I could prune a rowan tree today in a couple of hours. I used a ladder to climb up into the crown with the Fiskars cutter not extended in most cases to make it easier to handle in the midst of all the branches. This worked well for the higher branches then I walked around looking from different angles with it at full extension and finished the tree into a well balanced shape. All the time, I was thinking; how good this tool is.Very striaght forward to use and very light(considering its size and purpose), I would say normal physically fit men and women could use this tool most of a day without tiring. It cuts anything the cutting head will go around, in most cases, with nowhere near maximum effort. Some pieces I struggled with I just changed the head angle and tried again and this was usually enough to get me through... after all it is a hard wood.Thank God there are companies like Fiskars out there procuding high quality items to a 'lifetime standard'. In reality, this tool is a bargain for the time and effort it saves you. The strap is easily adjusted on the orange handle(like a sort old fashioned rucksack strap fitting),It took about eight seconds. Ive also got the Fiskars power gear loppers and these are also second to none. I'd buy them everytime.Invest in products that are design for the jobs you want to do. Otherwise these companies will go bust and we'll have no choice but to buy chinese rubbish. Thankyou Fiskars and Amazon.

Excellent product but Fiskars should be ashamed of their website
Arrived just 3 days after placing my order on a super saver free delivery. I had had the chance to use one owned by a local tree surgeon, which must be a decent recommendation in itself, and thought it so good that I ordered one immediately. It is lightweight and easy to handle, even at full extension . The operating mechanism is smooth and develops plenty of power; cutting back relatively soft Leylandii was effortless. Deadwood on an old plum tree was harder work but the Fiskars website does give its use as for fresh growth so don't expect it to tackle absolutely everything. Appears to be very well designed and durable. The operating cord has stretched a little which is probably normal after initial use; a previous reviewer helpfully mentions how to sort this out.On the downside, the only user information that comes with it is on the packaging in the form of a pictorial indication of how to use it but it's so simple that you could work that out in 30 seconds with nothing whatsoever to go on.Don't bother with the manufacturer's website for product support info, because there isn't any. Probably one of the worst manufacturers' websites I've come across lately; bizarre, and a complete contrast to the product itself hence 4 stars rather than the 5 it otherwise deserves.

fiskar's telescopic universal cutter
The Fiskar's TUC was offered by Longacres and arrived in just 2 days.Length can be adjusted between 2.4 m and 3.9 m, allowing an average person to prune 5.4 m above standing level. There are no instructions except some pictures on the packing, but it's easy to work out how to use it.At under 2 kg most people should be able to wield it with 2 hands(you need 2 hands to operate it anyway). There are actually 2 ways to operate it, depending on how high up you are holding it.Well designed, the mechanism provides a high mechanical advantage so that cutting branches 30 mm diameter is not difficult. The blades appear to be high quality alloy steel and PTFE coated to improve performance and durability. It has no external pulleys or dangling ropes, so it can penetrate through lower foliage to cut upper branches of trees without getting caught on the lower twigs, etc. The cutting head can also be adjusted to cut at an angle if a direct approach is not possible. For maintenance, I would suggest some oil or grease on the steel chain to lubricate and protect it, especially if storing in a damp garage or garden shed. The nylon band may also need replacement after many years service. It is more expensive than the cheap, cord operated cutters: but it totally outperforms them enabling safer, faster, better pruning, and if used properly I think it should be the last pruner you ever need to buy.

How did I not have one of these?
I borrowed this from a neighbour and that convinced me to buy one for myself.Easy to use and really makes light work of tree pruning. I really like the orange, plastic bit so if you can’t see the blades or where they’re about to cut, the orange really stands out. It’s weighty without being too heavy to lift and the extension is brilliant. After having very expensive quotes to prune trees, it’s already paid for itself about 4 times over. Excellent product, would 100% recommend.

Good kit but poor blade protector (broken on arrival) & dreadful delivery.
Pruner does exactly what is claimed; is lightweight and will made - apart from the blade protector which is flimsy and was broken on delivery.By Amazon standards, it was very poorly packed and delivery took a week having sat in Evri’s delivery depot since Saturday (today is Friday!).As a PRIME member, this is totally unacceptable.
