From race track to radio
Goldie continues to be a great character in volume 4! The Russian Intelligence is trying to hijack the radio waves for nefarious purposes but Goldie (and her ever fantastic crew of old friends and new) are on the case. Fun, lively, great art and story.

Another great mystery & where is Volume 5 already?
Goldie gets ahead of herself in this one & lets her emotions & biases jeopardize the case, her friends & relationships, & her reputation. Can she pull it together in time to foil the KGB & prove she is the detective she says she is? Of course! This is Goldie 💜 But it looks like while her relationships & reputation are stronger than ever, her enemies are banding together as well. I can't wait for Volume Five to come out!

More Girl Detective Fun in the 1960s!
While no longer being scripted or drawn by the original creators (although original writer Hope Larson gets credit for the story in this volume), Goldie Vance continues to be a really fun teen mystery series. Set in Florida during the 1960s, this book features Goldie and her friends in a tale that very much uses rock & roll from the period and the Cold War as its backdrop. In terms of representation, it's very refreshing to see a series that features a non-white, non-male, non-heterosexual heroine without drawing any particular attention to any of those facts. Beyond that, this is a really good story. While, on the one hand, pitting Goldie and her friends against a Russian spy plot to disrupt America's infrastructure seems a bit bigger and broader than previous adventures, the energy and fun in the script, art, pacing, and characterization keeps things feeling believable. Another great installment in a great series.

A song that takes out the electricity must be good!!!
THE last two volumes had much longer fully fleshed mysteries. This volume lost me a little in the middle but it definitely was able to pull back my attention. I love a good evil plot that has ups and downs, bad guy team ups and international plots. I cant wait to see what's next for Goldie and her friends.

My Favorite
I liked how Goldie and Diane's relationship takes a big role in the plot this time. Sure, we have seen cute moments before but we didn't see the relationship grow. Which it is okay, I'm not complaining, because their relationship felt like a constant and I'm happy to see sapphic women existing. But here they have conflicts, disagreements, and fights. We see their relationship going up and down, and both of them growing from it. I assure you, there is HEA.I'm completely in love with this series.
