Top quality, well constructed, good materials; great value!
I'm retired, so I mostly wear "running" or cross-training athletic shoes. Last time I wore all-leather boots was in the military, many years ago. These Thorogood roofers are truly excellent quality; the leather is supple [even the doubled-up sides are flexible], the tanning/color is consistent [I got the "tobacco" version], and the stitching and riveting are all very good. I normally wear an 11 1/2 4E, so I ordered these in 11 2E, and got the slightly roomy fit that I like. I probably could have gone down a full size and still gotten a comfortable fit.I was a bit concerned that Thorogood's 2E width would be too snug for my 4E feet, but it wasn't. In fact, one reason I chose the "roofer" over Thorogood's "heritage" boot was because I hoped that I could adjust the width fit by varying the lacing tension. I'm so happy with the roofers, I'll probably get the heritage boots anyway...I kept the high-quality Thorogood-branded "ultimate shock absorption" insoles, and added some relatively thin Dr Scholl's PRO insoles; combined, they are very, very comfortable [I just had the Dr Scholl's around--the stock Thorogood insoles are really excellent, and provide great support and cushioning]. I also swapped-out the stock laces for some Kiwi brand Outdoor Leather/Tan 72-inch laces, which are just slightly longer than Thorogood's nylon laces.I had read somewhere that Thorogood was phasing out "Vibram" soles on some boots; these roofer's came with Vibram soles, and they are flexible with a slightly aggressive tread pattern. Great for walking around, and working in the garden or workshop. All said, these Roofer's are great boots, and a truly remarkable value for Made-in-America footwear [it even says"union made" on the size-label inside the left shoe's tongue]. They are highly recommended [just remember to order 1/2 size smaller for a slightly roomy fit, or perhaps a full size smaller for a more "normal" fit in this boot].

Four months later...
Been wearing these boots for four months and can now review them with some integrity.First, as to sizing: I had my feet measured with a Brannock Device, wearing the socks that I actually wear with boots, and ordered that size. The fit was absolutely perfect. If you're basing your size on what you've typically purchased (especially if they're made overseas) you'll probably want to order 1/2 to 1 size smaller, as people have indicated. Have your foot measured correctly and these will fit correctly. They took a surprisingly short amount of time to break in (for boots, you understand. If you're used to athletic shoes you're going to think it takes a long time!) About 10 days of only intermittent wear was sufficient the break them in thoroughly. The leather is supple but of high quality (which are two things you usually don't find in the same boot!) and not stiff like many boots I've purchased over the years. The eyelets and hooks are of high quality and don't snag like some do.For a leather boot they're lightweight. Yes, they're heavier than the nubuck/nylon hybrid work shoes that are very popular these days, but I was astounded how light they were. Finally, the elusive comfort review: they're superb! Once broken in they feel like you're walking on air. In fact, I actually look forward to putting them on and going for a walk! The soft wedge sole makes these boots a joy to walk in - uphill, downhill, on rocks or pavement. I wouldn't have believed that a pair of leather work boots could feel like tennis shoes, but that's as close as I can get to describing how they feel. The insoles are nicely padded with just the right amount of arch support. Very cushy; I usually have to buy some sort of foam or gel insoles for any footwear I buy. These are the first shoes (let alone boots) I've ever bought to which I simply didn't need to add aftermarket insoles.I'm so impressed I'm buying a pair in black next. I may have found my "live the rest of my life with just these" boots.

Stylish design
These are a great boot first off. American made... BIG plus in my book. My 14 year old daughter thinks they are "stylin". Guess that's good to know, but not really why I bought them. Here's some points to consider for all you fellow consumers;1) The inner part of the neck of the boot has no padding. This may or may not be a problem for you as everyone's anatomy is different. My ankles are fairly skinny for my size, 180lbs 6', but my ankle bones are protruding and this creates a lovely wear spot right where the leather segments are riveted together. I simply leave the laces loose around the top of the boot and it helps. Doesn't remedy, but helps.2) Easily removable inserts. This is a well thought out gesture on the makers design. I imagine they realized that most people are going to want to install their own insert preference, so why make it hard on the end user. Good play mates!3) Laces run all the way to the toe, so one has great variability in how the boot will fit and tension the top part of the foot. This also gives the boot a unique look that adds to its appeal.4) These boots run very large in length and rather narrow in width. The other reviewers and myself are not kidding about this...! Order at least a half size smaller in length, and one or two sizes larger in width. I normally wear a 10 men's standard width. I ordered a 9 1/2 EE. They are still a little long, which is fine, but they are still a little narrow in the toe, even with the EE wider boot. Be aware of this or you'll be sending them back.5) These are advertised as a roofing boot, but I fail to see how they earned that distinction. The soles are rather stiff for a roofing shoe. As a contractor, when I'm up on roofs over 5/12 pitch, I definitely want my crepe sole shoes on. These are a little scary to be skipping around a 2 story structures roof. They aren't particularly slip resistant on either roof decking or shingles. They're great on the ground however, with a nice wear resistant sole that doesn't have heavy lugs to gather debris and gravel.6) Be prepared to purchase an adequate supply of laces. Better yet, keep some in your work truck as you'll most certainly need them at the most inoppertune of times.Overall, I find these boots to be fine. I'm not going to gush about how completely revolutionary they are to my existence, but I do believe with great sincerity, that they are a well crafted product that deserves your attention. Keep up the good work Weinbrenner Shoes! You're dedication to good craftsmanship does not go unnoticed. Houzah...

Comfy and stylin
After a few days of break in, which is expected of any good boot, these are super comfortable. I get quite a few compliments! I don't work as a roofer, or even in construction, but they are well cushioned for walking around a hospital's concrete floors all day.

Almost
Seems like a nice boot, really nice looking and quite comfortable. Sizing sucks though, and the pair I received had many flaws. My feet are 27cm exactly, so I ordered a 9.5 and it was still a good half size to big. Notice how one pair looks nice, the other was very wrinkled and felt different
