If bass is your thing...
Look no further. These aren't the headphones for TRUE audiophiles. But if you're a basshead like me? They're nearly perfect. I have been faithful to the Sony MDR-XB950B1(and the older BT model) but Sony no longer makes those, and they have a fatal design flaw that causes the earcup hanger to break over time. I replaced my first MDRs recently with a pair I bought from Ebay. Did some research, and these seemed like the next best option to succeed the MDRs. So, if you're someone who also loves those old MDR-XB950B1 headphones, this review is for you. ULT WEAR has better audio quality than the MDRs. The MDRs have better bass. But barely. The MDRs had always been a bit muddy in sound, due to that extra bass. A worthy exchange for people like me. The ULTs sounding better overall is nice. Unlike the MDRs, the ULTs lose bass power at higher volumes. I find the bass is the most impactful around 65-80% volume. While it's still very present at 80-100%, the high and mids drown it out a little. The bass will still rattle your head a little, but not the same way as the MDRs, where the bass scales more with the volume. Crank those up to 100% and they're going to melt your face with bass. And I love them for it. It that regard, the MDRs are better. The ULTs are no slouch though. The ULTs are lighter, and more comfortable. This is subjective, but for me, I don't like the touch controls. Sure, it makes the ULTs look sleek and minimal, but it's very easy to change songs when you're just trying to turn the volume up or down. Tactile buttons are preferred there, but I'll get used to the touch controls. Or, just use whatever device I have them connected to instead. For the price, these are fantastic. Especially if you grabbed them on that cyber monday sale, like me. $150 for these is a steal. Overall, great headphones. Probably not the best overall, for sound quality. But in their price range? You won't find anything with more bass. Hell, I'd bet that anything currently on the market doesn't match up for bass. For me, those old MDRs are the only headphones I've listened to that are better, as far as bass goes. MDRs are still the kings of bass. The ULT WEAR is a very close second.

NOTHING BAD TO SAY - edit found the something bad to say.
I think they’re nice, but I don’t think there is base heavy as to the Skullcandy headphones. I think there is no brand on this planet that produces bass of the skull, rattling quality than Skullcandy. However, these are so comfortable… Not as comfortable as the Skullcandy headphones, the ANC Crushers, but it’s OK Edit: They broke two years later. That plastic binding really showed its true colors. The battery life is insane and it’s on power with the Skullcandy battery life and if I was to really get into it, I would say that their battery life is the best. The controls are very easy and I love the fact that when you take it off a positive song and when you put it on back, it plays the song. I like the fact that it has multipoint connectivity so it connects to both my iPhone and my MacBook at the exact same time and I have the 2018 MacBook, so that’s actually really great. It’s not as loud as I wanted it to be but other times it’s extremely loud and I can’t pinpoint if it’s just my ears or if it’s really my preference. But sometimes it’s loud sometimes it’s not. I don’t know what that is but it’s not low. That being said, it does have a lot of bass and you definitely do hear the boom from the bass, but like I said it’s not as powerful as Skullcandy, but I think it’s a little bit clearer and A lot less muddled. The microphone is good and sometimes it’s not, but I will have the headphone like maybe arms length from where I am and I’ll be talking and the person can still hear me or when I’m using dictation or speech to text, it’s still picking up what I’m saying, even though I’m nowhere near the headphone. I love the fact that it has built-in protection for sudden increases in the volume. So like when I have my phone in my hand sometime, I’ll click the volume button and I’ll click it all the way up and sometimes I have to prepare myself because I think I’m gonna get my eardrums blown out, but what happens is if you suddenly turn up immediately it probably takes like half a second to fully get LOUD (peak)! and I think that’s great because it protects your eardrums. It’s kind of shaped awkward when it’s on your ears, but I don’t mind it and like I said, I love the touch controls because it’s a lot easier than fidgeting with a whole bunch of buttons. It’s worth the price that I paid even though I didn’t really pay for it. I used gift card, but. The personal sound with the app doesn’t really do much but I guess it’s OK. I like that it has a built-in equalizer, but even that doesn’t really do much. I will say this, the sound quality is a lot clearer from this headphone compared to the Skullcandy ANC crusher. I love it.

Thunderous bass !
I brought these headphones to replace my cowin e7 headphones which cost a fraction of what these cost. You get what you pay for. These Sony ult headphones sound amazing! I’m a bass head I listen to lots of hip hop especially songs which I know has lots of low end bass to them. This headset handles it effortlessly. The cowin e7 does not have the bass response these have not even close . Very deep smooth and controlled not overwhelming. The highs and clarity are very good as well. The headsets block out outside noise very well feels like a soundproof vacuum when I put them on. And they are comfortable to wear even for hours at a time . One thing I must say. I use these headsets with my iPhone 14 and especially with older hip hop songs the volume on the phone doesn’t cut it for me. So I ordered a riworal ph400 headphone amplifier 4 channel for like 35 bucks on Amazon. This amp combined with the Sony ult headphones is a game changer far as sound and deep bass is concerned. My iPhone is actually longer than the amp itself but the amp is a half inch thicker.Very small compact size: I get the volume clarity and deep clean bass when I use the amp and headphones together. Too bad amp is not battery powered but it’s a great sounding amp. Djs use this to amplify their headphones in noisy environments. I love the fact the knobs glow different colors very nice illumination! I only turn up the volume about a 1/4 of what’s it’s capable of but it’s plenty loud at that volume! Even at high levels on this amp the Sony ult headphones handle it no problem . For people who use their phone to listen to music with you may want to consider a headphone amp. Should have brought one before when I first got the idea in my head .These Sony headphones are well worth the price ! Update : I have used on several occasions and owned them for quite a while now . So like I said previously they sound awesome. Charge lasts for quite a while !! I don’t use the noise canceling feature it drains the battery a lot faster. These block out most outside noise without the feature activated. Only one bad thing with these . On my Samsung 75 inch tv these won’t connect via Bluetooth. I googled it and found an article confirming my suspicions were accurate. Flat screen Samsungs won’t connect via Bluetooth with these ult headsets. I love these headsets!!!

Loud & Good
Great headphones. Not worth full price in my opinion, wait for the 50% off. I bought these because I wanted LOUD headphones. Sound is loud, significantly louder than “other” brands. However, my main concern is the connectivity. It suddenly loses connection , you have to manually turn off the headphones and reconnect it to your device. Can be annoying. Very durable though, case is great. Even without case, easy to store and carry around. Battery lasts weeks, noise cancellation is really great, compares well to other more expensive brands. Amazing for travel, I travel +12 hours flights with these and they truly isolate me. Light fit, not heavy and very easy to use.

noise canceling stunning
pushing the bounds of technology slight noise bleed but still stunning bought two returned one, it was picking up audio from my security cam, the one that i am keeping is better than QuietComfort, better ANC. better algos maybe? super digitized this is the only headphone i would recommmend and I've had a few in my life including ear buds Welcome to the space age or AI, if the Jetsons had a head phone this would be it. only con build quality is delicate but what do you expect for $115 after 10% back i was wrong there is no noise that was the actual audio from the security cam i mistook for noise bleed because my cam's audio has a horrible lag and is bearly intellligible and i thought the volume was off, stupid mistake. by the way another thing i like, the pads are noticeably big in both diameter and thickness, comfortable for the ears but they do remind me of firing range ear muffs on an air craft carrier not just good for pop music its great for piano solo's like beethoven's 5th its just wow this headphone can supposedly calibrate the ambient sound it picks up, a loud bang will not be amplified. this is an AI application that could be further developed in so many ways AI glitz, sometimes you can't tell if its on or not after you put it down, Sony's feverishly updating like everybody else, you think? If they could combine this with Rayban-Meta, get rid of the glasses put the camera right on the headphone or Apple Vision pro, instead of plugging into a battery you could plug into these, it would be like an iphone you wear on your head or neck Noise cancelling together with ambient sound you can attempt to control the noise or the sound that reaches your ears

Better than Sony MX5
They sound pretty good out the box but once you mess with the eq and sound settings to your liking they are superb. I've tried out the sony mx5 side by side with these and these Honestly sound way better. You can basically eq the bass to nothing and turn it up if need to. It's got some really good sounding low end too. If you're debating these or mx5 id say get these. Cause i feel like mx5 kinda lacks the bass for certain genres but these got it all for everything. And the ult wear from my experience sound richer and and maybe brighter. Has great ANC and are really comfortable, i can wear them for hours no problem... just go to a best buy and try them out, trust me.

Exceeded my expectations
These headphones are amazing! This is the first pair of headphones or earbuds where I don't need to adjust an EQ to get just the sound (especially the bass) that I'm looking for and that includes not using ULT mode. The default amount of bass is really good and for the songs where I do want a little more bass switching to ULT 1 does the trick. ULT 2 has crazy amounts of bass to where you actually feel the headphones vibrate and it's almost comical. That's the mode for when you just want to go all out on the bass and you don't care as much about how the rest of the song sounds. But ULT 0 and ULT 1 are where I keep it and I am thoroughly satisfied with the sound quality of both modes. These are also very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I work from home and wear glasses while I work and the ULT Wears don't press the arms of the glasses into the sides of my head causing pain after a while so it's all good there. I love the touch controls being on the right side and the physical buttons on the left side and I have had very few accidental touches with this arrangement. Adjusting the volume up and down and going forward or backward is really responsive with the touch controls. I've seen the videos and posts about the cracks at the hinge and I'm glad that this pair has a serial number that is not in the affected range of ULT Wears that have this problem so hopefully these will last. This was the biggest reason why I hesitated buy these. To conclude: At this moment I could not be happier with these headphones!

Some high end features at a midrange price, could use audio over USB-C
These headphones don’t have any significant problems, and I think they’re a decent step up from more budget headphones without breaking the bank too hard. Sound quality is pretty decent. I used the 5 band EQ in the Sony app to crank up the highs to increase clarity, and I generally like how they sound. The ULT button can add an extra kick at times, but I usually just leave that off. They also come with touchpad controls, simultaneous multi-device connection, and wear detection - features on high end headphones that I appreciate. Noise cancelling and transparency are highlights of these headphones, as they do a great job at blocking out surrounding noise. Put on some music and noise cancelling in a coffee shop, and you won’t even realize people are there. The transparency mode is also quite good. Super high-end headphones - like the Airpods Max - probably have better transparency mode, but the ULT Wear is already 98% of the way there. They’re generally pretty comfortable, and I can wear them for several hours at a time without issue. The battery life is long enough that I don’t really need to think about it. A hardshell case is included with these headphones, as well as your standard USB-C and 3.5 mm headphone cable. This is appreciated over the CH720N, as those headphones don’t come with a case. I do wish that these accessories were color matched though, as you still get a black case and cable even with the white version of these headphones. Another minor complaint I have is that the headphones stick out a little more than others, but you can’t really do anything about that. Bluetooth latency is bad enough for this not to be great for rhythm games or hardcore gaming. One missing feature that would have improved this product would be audio over USB-C. Using the 3.5mm jack to connect the headphones to a PC works and fixes latency, but they sound much better if you turn the headphones on instead of working passively. This means that they'll be draining battery despite being connected physically. Overall, I generally really like these headphones, but there’s always room for improvement.
