FOX RIVERExtra Heavy Double Ragg Mitten

Warm, Not Itchy
The lining in these gloves makes a big difference. They are soft, pretty, warm and not itchy. They run a little on the large side in terms of fit. The small size fits me perfectly and I wear a medium latex glove to do dishes. I also bought the single ply wool Ragg Mittens by the same company and could not wear them because of the itchy wool, so I returned them.

Perfect.
I have used my pair in Denali, Alaska for 2 winters now, talking about some serious cold here. They are soft enough on the outside where you don't want to work in them without having a tougher, outer layer, and that's fine because they are an excellent liner mitten. The insides of these are actually very soft and comfortable, not at all rough or scratchy to the skin. I have worn them simply walking around downtown Anchorage during the Fur Rondy events when it was, lets say, 0 to 10 degrees out, and they are handsome and kept my hands warm. I have also used them many times as liner gloves for bigger, leather mittens in as cold as -40 to -50, and they also kept my hands very warm and comfortable. If they were more expensive I would still give them 5 stars, but they're only, what, $13?? Worth every penny and then some. Just ordered the medium size for my girlfriend. My hands aren't HUGE, just an average large size, and the large fits me perfectly. I would say they would be fine for some bigger hands, as well. No sign of 'wear and tear' yet, but as I said, I put tougher outer gloves over them when I was handling wood and axes and shovels. Highly recommend in any way. Feel free to ask questions.

Exceptional mittens; great value. Read why
I bought a pair each of these for myself & my son. I wear a size 10 1/2 glove, and these fit fine with room to spare. My son prefers to wear these with a pair of windproof over-mitts which he claims has kept him warm the high winds at 10 degrees here in Wisconsin. I wear them with a pair of wool liner gloves (plenty of room for these to fit) & have warm hands in the same conditions. The outer shell is a very heavy 85% wool and 15% nylon. I believe that the deciding factor in this mittens ability to provide exceptional warmth is the inner liner which a terry-looped construct of 67% acrylic (for moisture wicking), 23% wool and 10% nylon. While not windproof, cold, windy conditions can be minimized by using one of the techniques mentioned above. The looped liner aids in providing warmth, blocking wind, and helps keep hands dry and warmer by wicking away perspiration.Another advantage over most mittens is the long cuff that extends well onto the forearm, further than most regular gloves do and as far as even the best wool liner gloves. I have yet to find an unheated glove that keeps my hands warm over an extended period of time, but these keep me warmer longer (with my liners) than any other mitts that use hot packs or are battery-heated. (The roominess of the gloves, though, will certainly accommodate chemical hand-warmers.)As with other Fox River wool products, these are sturdily constructed (now in Haiti) and, based on my experience with this brand, I expect that they will provide many years of service. Plan on washing these by hand and letting them air-dry. A definite value purchase.

Well worth the price!! I love them.
I LOVE these mittens. First let me say I ordered these and the "Ragg Mitten" from Fox River and I really like them both. This is a much thicker double layer mitten. The Ragg Mitten is single layer and is much thinner -- but warm in it's own right. I bought these because my Eddie Bauer Rag Wool mittens can no longer be duct taped together (they are 20 years old) and needed a replacement. I have a dog and need WARM mittens for walking him in the winter. We are currently in the middle of a cold snap. The low this morning was -3 and I wore these little mitts for his walk (he refuses to do his business in the yard) and my hands got only a slight bit cool. First, you need to understand that my hands get VERY COLD. I am wearing mittens whenever the temperature is below 50 degrees. So I was amazed that my hands didn't feel the chill. When I walked the dog later today, I have to say they do let the wind in - we had a brisk wind -- so they aren't perfect. But when walking with my back to the wind they warmed up my hands pretty quick. I think for a double layer mitt they are pretty thin and manageable. I did wear these to drive today and they did alright... I did find I didn't need a mitten that warm for inside the car, so that's where the single layer Ragg Mitt came in. The only bad thing I can say about them -- and it's a small complaint is that the inner layer doesn't seem to fit inside the mitten too well. There are a few creases and general "bulkiness" - more so on the right hand mitt. So I think it's a quirk with my pair, but after having them on a few minutes, I hardly notice it. The inside is nice and smooth/soft so no scratchiness there.Sizing - I ordered the small and I find them just a little short on my hand. I followed the size guidelines. Anyway, again, I'm fine with it because I don't want them too bulky otherwise managing the dogs leash is hard. They are snug around the wrist and so no worries about it falling off unless I'm purposely pulling it off.For the price, I think they are GREAT mittens and I just hope that in 20 years (probably sooner since I can find them cost efficient) when I'm looking for another pair, they are still around.

My Favorite Winter Hand Coverings
These 2-layer mittens are my go-to hand coverings in cold (but dry) conditions. They are warmer than the best of the gortex gloves & mittens I've got. And they are relatively inexpensive. They are not the best in wet conditions as they will absorb moisture & stay wet (tho will also provide a reasonable degree of warmth even then). But add a waterproof outer mitt and you're good! They wear out at the fingertips as you'll find yourself handling things with them, and that eventually wears a hole in the outer wool and then the inner insulation. Even at that, they are good mitts.

Real woolen mittens
Looking for a replacement liner for my winter mitts and all I could find was low quality fleece. These have the right combo of wool and synthetics to last a long time a keep my hands warm at very cold temps.

They come large.
Unfortunately I had to return them as I ordered a medium for my wife. They come from America and took a while to arrive and like most items of American clothing, they come slightly bigger. They are however, really good quality with a really good inner and outer. I will definitely be ordering a smaller pair once I receive my refund. Well recommended.
