Location: Basically, from the bats point of view, a bat house should be warm, dry, easy to enter or exit (no clutter), and safe from predators. Bats may find bat houses more quickly if they are located along forest or water edges where bats tend to fly. However, they should be placed at least 20 to 25 feet from the nearest tree branches, wires or other potential perches for aerial predators. General Installation Guidelines For All Bat Houses: · mounted on a pole or the side of a structure. · minimum of 15ft, above the ground. · open uncluttered sites that receive 6 or more hours of direct sunlight / day. · a southerly orientation. Bat houses mounted in back to back pairs should have a SE — NW orientation. Things To Avoid: · DO NOT mount your bat house on the trunk of a tree. However, bat houses can be hung from the limb of a large shade tree, if no open areas are available. · Avoid orienting a lone bat house directly North — it will remain too cool. · Don’t install the house in a shady wooded area. Please trim any tree limbs that grow close to or shade the bat house.

Poor Quality Control.
Unfortunately the furthest I got with this was taking it out of the box. There was a large knot and hole in the wood that continued as a crack up the back. I had to return it as it wouldn’t last long out in the elements starting from that condition.

not one bat
So I got this because we had the bats removed from our attic in a nice way and wanted them to stay around. Not one bat ever when into that bat house. It was useless.

Just received my bat box. This box is very well made and sturdy, and I really like it. I only wish it came it black because now I have to paint it before I can use it (NBD but just would be nice to have that option).

Buy larger, not this one.
We've had this 2 years. It's placed high, easy access and 6 hours sunlight a day. No bats.After doing some further research, it turns out this isnt big enough. Glad I didn't spend a tone of money, but it's still a waste.

Nicely built piece.
Although it's small, it's nicely built. My fault for not reading all of the specs on size, but I still think this is a great buy.

Did not realize that I would have to paint them and it would have been nice for us novices if there had been some instructions as to where, why etc about installing. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Could have built with two chambers
One chamber is too small for my purpose. It is installed and didn't bother to remove it and return.
