Mister Twiggly likes his games with plenty of BOOM. So when he pulled out his ancient Logitech Z-640 5.1 surround speaker system and connected it to his gaming rig, he was inconsolable when only two channels worked. A PCIE sound card fared little better; all speakers worked, but were mixed up, with no channel remap functionality. A friend told him about USB sound cards - he had no idea that such things existed - and he procured this one. To his surprise, it worked perfectly out of the box. He will now return to his previously-scheduled twiggling with 5.1 surround sound wonderfulness. He is a happy bear.

I plugged this external sound card into a free USB port and it just worked, without any 'looking for drivers' routine. The sound is great. This solved the problem of my refurbished 32 gig RAM 1 Terabyte SSD computer I just bought from Amazon for under $179, having only a stereo output plug instead of a surround sound output like my old slow computer. I had surround sound computer speakers I wanted to continue to use. What's really nice is how easy it is to output the sound to HDMI, for watching computer videos on the big screen television, and hearing the sound through our entertainment center's surround sound speakers. I wrote the following note to myself: "To Watch Computer Videos on TV: Set the AV receiver to "Computer". On the computer, at the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen, search for and click on "Sound Settings". Find "Choose your output device" and click on the down arrow. Click on 'AMD HDMI Output (AMD High Definition Audio Device)' The sound will now go through the AV receiver to the AV center's surround sound speakers! When you want to go back to the computer sound coming from the computer's surround sound speakers, in 'Sound Settings', choose 'Speakers (2-USB Sound Device)'" That's what I do and so can switch the audio back and forth from the computer to the entertainment center. So amazingly, this product worked, it was quite inexpensive, and it did not have driver issues, so was any easy install. I'm quite pleased. EDIT: Don't look for obscure drivers on the enclosed mini cd. Just plug in the USB cord. Don't worry that you don't have the usual "searching for drivers" routine. Just play some music. If need be, check that the output is correct under 'Sound Settings' as I described above.

I had to search online for a driver made for Win 10. The company that makes the device doesn't have the drivers, just a PDF of the manual, which I used to get a more technical name for the device so I could find a driver and some software from a 3rd party. The software is good for individually adjusting speaker volume, which is handy for a homemade surround sound system. So far I have only gotten it to work with the Netflix app. Not the browser Netflix, not Amazon app or browser, nor HBO. I haven't tried any other major streaming services yet. I have not tried it for input. It wasn't too expensive, so I have no serious regrets.

I bought this because my PC doesn't have an S/PDIF port, and I needed one to use my PC audio through my surround sound system. The product came on time, and looks nice. The audio quality seems okay so far. The only problem I had was the drivers. They come on a mini-CD, but thankfully I have a disk drive on my PC because it's pretty old. I was able to copy the files from the disk, which include folders for the drivers for Windows 10, 8, and previous. The sound control software it comes with is a little clunky, but has some pretty nice features. The only reason I give this product a three star review, is because it won't detect that the S/PDIF port has a cable in it. The only way I was able to get it to work was to use the Xear Audio Center program that comes with it. It starts out with only the speakers enabled, so I had to right click on the Speaker icon, click Speaker Settings, then click the list box on that screen, and set it to SPDIF Out. It still doesn't detect that there are multiple channels available for use, so i can't customize the volume for each speaker, but the surround sound does work. Perhaps it is user error, and I just didn't install the drivers correctly. I don't think incorrectly installing them is entirely my fault, because the drivers aren't easy to find. There are tons of folders in the files on the disk, and I can't seem to find the ones I'd need to install for the S/PDIF Out. Furthermore, in the windows device manager, it doesn't show the device, so I couldn't install the drivers for it if I found them. If anyone has some advice to offer to correct this, I'd love to listen. My back speakers in my surround setup are meant to be much closer than I can put them, so they're pretty quiet, and I'd like to increase the volume of them. Again, this product is great and fixes my problems, but I'd love to have the full functionality.

SPDIF output won't work, no matter WHAT I try !!! In the "Sound" control panel the USB sound 'card' is detected fine, but Window$ says "not plugged in" !!! There is no 'plugged in' detection for SPDIF optical output so absolutely no idea what the heck Window$ is talking about !!! Window$ will install the 'default' drivers which it claims are the best, even though there are obviously better ones (typical Window$ garbage though). Even installing the drivers from the included disc won't work, but at least they acknowledge SPDIF even exists (although won't let me select it) !!!

Würde ich mir nicht nochmal kaufen, da im Hintergrund immer ein permanenter Pfeifton ist. Ansonsten geht es.

Excellent device. My sound card in my HP a6000n desktop cumpoohter bit the dust and I tried to reload old drivers and HP didnt have anything. This device was super easy to set up and worked flawlessly on my 18 year old poohter. Price is right and it provides a few more options. What a life saver.!! It even sounds better with no buzz or hum and more gain!!

For those that say "The SPDIF Out is just a screw...." or "I can't get the SPIF Out working...." all I can say is that it is NOT a screw (but sure, the SPDIF optical outs do look like one LOL) and works if you use the correct driver. The chip used on the device is the Cmedia CM6206-LX. A quick Googling will take you to a website that provides the Win-8 drivers and chipset datasheet. On driver install....a red light is shown from the SPDIF Output (see photo).....and I am very sure screws can't do this! Lol. Product works fine. Unfortunately some people need more help in getting it going, so the seller could help a bit more I suppose (minus 1-Star).

Bevor ich die Karte am Rechner anschließen und installieren wollte, wollte ich erstmal sicher gehen, dass auch alle Eingänge mit der 5.1. Anlage kompatibel sind. Ergebnis: Die Karte ist so gebaut, dass man die 3 Aux Eingänge für eine 5.1 Anlage nicht gleichzeitig benutzen kann, da sie so nahe beieinander liegen, dass die Aux Kabel sich gegenseitig blockieren. Ich könnte 2 anschließen und das mittlere Loch müsste frei bleiben. Dann hätte ich aber keinen 5.1 sound, wozu ich mir ja überhaupt die Karte gekauft habe. Was ein Schwachsinn. Wie kann man das Teil so designen? Karte geht zurück, dann kaufe ich mir lieber eine neue interne 5.1 Soundkarte. Also bitte liebe Amazon Kunden. Kauft euch nicht diese Karte!
