Quite fortunately, Gramercy has top notch customer service and sent me a whole new smoker at no cost.Love this little smoker! Last year we went to a super fancy (expensive) restaurant on Nantucket. They brought the bread out with these little balls of butter. It was smoked butter and I swear I've never had anything so amazing in my life! Seriously, we've been talking about this butter for a year now.I was going to get one of those big smokers but there isn't much room in the yard. This was a perfect solution. We tried this out last night with a regular, store bought stick of butter. It took a few minutes to get it going and to get the smoke to fill the pot. But once we got the wood chips going, everything ran smoothly. We let it run for about 10 minutes and ended up with perfectly smoked butter.The instructions are a bit lacking. The battery setup is weird and the compartment for the wood chips is tiny. We probably spent more time looking for the tiniest chips we could find than doing the actual smoking.Overall, this is a good little gadget to have around if you don't feel like investing in a big smoker or if you don't have the space.

I got this for my partner for Christmas for smoking cocktails, and we love it! It was a very nice inexpensive option for us, but it still works really well. I'm not sure what flavor/scent of wood chip comes with it -- I think maybe hickory, but I can't recall -- but it does come with a nice little pouch of chips to get you started. We burned through those pretty quickly; I'd definitely recommend getting a set of wood chips along with it at the beginning. (We got Breville's set of mesquite, hickory, applewood, and cherrywood, and that's been awesome for this.)It imparts really lovely flavors to our cocktails (and just straight up bourbon or rye, unsurprisingly) in about a minute, and is so easy to clean up. Part of the clean-up that I'd wish I known at the beginning is that you should remove the head of smoker, where the chip basket is, and clean off the smoky-scented oil that deposits there after you use it. I have a little brown oil stain in my drawer now after not having known about this. But it does come with a little velvet pouch, so if you stored it in there, there would be no issue, I would guess.One other thing we discovered is that this does not light easily with just a match. Fortunately, I have a little butane torch for baking, and that works great with this.

I love this handy smoker. It comes with a bag of flavored wood chips and the smoke level can be very intense if you keep lighting it up. Especially if you have the switch on. But it was a great conversation starter and people loved it and loved the smoked cocktails. So is a must have in your home bar.

Does NOT come with pictured infuser lid but works great. No where in the listing does it say the infuser lid is not included. The listing does say the dome cover (to cover a plate) is not included. For best results you will need to purchase an infuser lid. You will also need 4 AA batteries, (not included). The top portion of the unit, the part with the bowl, slides off for easy cleaning and replacement of wire mesh when it becomes necessary. Two extra meshes are included and should last you a lifetime. The housing is made of metal, most likely aluminum and the internals are a mix of plastic and metal. The fan blades are metal. Puts out a good amount of smoke and is not loud. I bought this after being underwhelmed by an unpowered wood top infuser. I like this infuser but was unhappy to lay out another $10+ for a pair of infuser lids. I've seen some complaints about lack of clear directions for loading the batteries and must say without looking at directions I had no issue loading the batteries or securing the sliding battery compartment cover. If you every loaded AAA or AA or C or D batteries into a toy or a flashlight you should know what you are doing with the pointy and flat ends of a battery and the pointy and springy ends of a battery compartment (compartment springs go against flat end of battery). The sliding/removable battery compartment cover has an arrow pointing to the open position and will only close fully when you slide it in the opposite direction of the open arrow. Don't flip it around and it will close nicely. If it had the infuser lid I would have given it five stars.

Most large liquor retail stores carry at least one type of chips.Extremely happy with this purchase.You will need a lighter to get the chips lit, this vacuums the flame and immediately produces smoke through the tube and into the glass.You can dome the smoke over salmon or other goods as well.

I got this for my stepson for Christmas. We had great fun trying it out on whiskey and different foods. It looks so cool when you use it, and it effectively imparts a smoke flavor. Delicious!Only downside is, it doesn't come with the disks you need for cocktails. You have to buy them separately. And of course, it only comes with a small amount of wood chips, so you'll have to buy refills soon.It works really well despite its low cost, so if you're not totally sure about it, this is a good starter kit.
