The Society of the Crossed Keys: Selections from the Writings of Stefan Zweig, Inspirations for The Grand Budapest Hotel

I bought this because I loved The Grand Budapedt Hotel. The title is misleading: The Society of Crossed Keys is a Wes Anderson invention. But wow, I can see how he fell in love with Zweig's writing. The translator has done a wonderful job, too. If you relate to the style of writing and storytelling, it is a great book.

I purchased this book solely from the context of being a deep fan of the film, and wanted more of ..."that" kind of artistry to consume. I was not disappointed, to say the least. "The World of Yesterday" was incredibly engaging and opened up something inside me which I never harbored before, which is an interest in 19-20th century culture and life. If you were a fan of the film, this is pure honey. It will surely open up an appreciation for that lost world, and perhaps also a hope that one day mankind can reintegrate its lost value in approaching life aesthetically.

Just got the book 2 days ago and so far I'm 72 pages in a great book with great insight both in the the life of stefan zweig and in to the storys that inspired the grand Budapest hotel All in all a great book highly recommend

I believe that Stefan Zweig has a very romantic and an extremly unrealistic view of life in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Made me want to read more of Zwieg

The discussion between Wes Anderson and Zweig biographer is quite interesting, absolutely love the short stories they picked even though I had already read some. Still a pleasure.

Ce livre est une compilation d'extraits intéressant de l'oeuvre de Zweig précédée d'une interview de Wes Anderson de 17 pages (dont de larges extraits sont disponibles sur internet). Les extraits choisis permettent de comprendre une partie du fond du film Grand Budapest, mais il n'y a qu'un très faible appareil critique, peu de notes explicatives.Je pensais acheter un livre dont la plus grande partie était composée par l'interview d'Anderson, ou alors d'un travail analytique comparant les deux oeuvres, il n'en est rien, de là ma déception. Je lirai mieux les informations la prochaine fois.Bonne lecture.
