A promising start into the book series
Overall I really enjoyed the book. The setting felt different and unique, the writing was well done and immersive and shadow daddy Hades was very enjoyable ;) I had a good time reading it. Naturally there's still room for improvement in next installment, but I'm still looking forward to it. I really loved the tension between Lyra and Hades, but I did kind of miss the slow-burn build up - the turning point when teasing and flirting turned into something more. Maybe it would have been nice to have some of those tension-filled "almost"-moments before they finally kissed, but I suppose that's my personal opinion ;) Apart from that it sometimes felt almost too fast-paced. Like I was hoping for more interaction between the lead characters, and also some side-characters between the different trials. Maybe twelve trials was also just a bit too much. Nine would have been better I guess... But that's peanuts really. I'm looking forward to "The things gods break" and already have it preordered :)

The Games Gods Play: A Thrilling Romantasy Filled with Love, Trials, and Divine Drama
šā The Games Gods Play āš Genre: Romantasy/Mythology Themes: Competition, Love, Cursed, Thief, Brooding/Shadowy-MMC, Touch-Her-And-Die My Rating: āāāā Spice Level: š„š„ - š„š„š„ World Building: Mild Let me just start by saying: I know this book has a lot of mixed reviews, and it might not be for everyone. But spoiler alertāI LOVED it! Sure, there were a few things Iād tweak here and there (thereās always room for improvement, right?), but overall? Iād 100% read it again, and Iām already eagerly planning a re-read before book two drops. Fingers crossed (and maybe a little prayer) for an ARC of the next one⦠but letās be real, thatās probably not happening. 𤣠So, hereās the vibe. Imagine Percy Jackson x Throne of Glass x The Hunger Games. Thatās essentially what this book serves up. Lyla, our FMC, is on a mission to get her curse lifted by Zeus. But, instead of getting a clean slate, she ends up catching the eye of Hades himself. And spoiler: Hades has his own little agenda for her, which, letās just say, complicates things. Enter The Crucibleāthis bookās version of The Hunger Games, where the gods throw a bunch of humans into a deadly competition to determine who will rule the divine realm. High stakes, a deadly battle, and of course, tons of drama. What more could you ask for? Now, onto the romance. The slow burn? Not the slowest Iāve ever read, but trust me, the chemistry is off the charts and the banter is giving. Honestly, though, I found myself way more obsessed with Hades than Lyla (no offense to Lyla, sheās great, but Hades... š). I mightāve developed a slightly unhealthy attachment to the Underworld at this point. I mean, who wouldnāt want to live in a place where the brooding, shadowy MMC rules with an adorable three-headed pup. š¶ One thing I really loved was the unexpected twist on the Hades and Persephone myth. It's not what youād expect, but thatās what makes it so fun and refreshing. Iām already counting down the days until book two, and I canāt wait to see how everything unfolds! A couple of things I wished had been more fleshed out: the side characters. Given how long the book is, I felt like there was room for a little more depth there. And while Olympus and the Underworld were both described as incredibly beautiful, I was really craving a bit more world-building in those areas. Thereās so much potential to explore those settings! And, oh my godsāthat cliffhanger. I was absolutely REELING. I may or may not have shed a few tears when I realized book two isnāt out until September 2025. š But hey, Iāve started The Final Goddess trilogy to help ease the pain of that epic cliffhanger, and Iām blazing through it. Stay tuned for that review as soon as I finish book two⦠and then itās back to impatiently waiting for the next one. šš
