Otis Technology 308 Rifle Cleaning System

Everything you need for cleaning a M1A
The title pretty much sums it up. It comes with two flex cables and two brushes (.30 and .45) and the patch holders and other accessories listed in the description. This is particularly useful for my M1A since the 30 cal brush can be pulled from breech to muzzle instead of doing it with a rod from muzzle to breech. The .45 brush is a double bonus for me since I mainly shoot 308 rifles and 45 hand guns. The 45 cal brush is also the correct size for me to clean the M1A chamber. The .45 brush paired with a flexible chamber tool makes this kit invaluable for the M1A since it will always beat out the GI ratcheting brush. If you have optics or the SOCOM extended rail you'll only be ratcheting a small amount plus having the pain of pulling it out of the chamber.Do read the instructions on how to fold the patches since there are different "pinch points" depending on calibre. The included Otis CLP is good for range cleaning but nothing beats hoppes #9 and sweets 7.62. That way you don't have to worry about the CLP "varnishing" in the barrel. My only gripe is the case is a little tight fitting and the patches are somewhat expensive for what they are. Otis claims 6 uses but I really only feel comfortable using it once or twice (if it comes out clean). They get dirty all around plus they will start linting after one pull.In the end a rod, brush, and jag would be ideal but I'd rather spend a little more time and do a proper breech to muzzle cleaning.

the bore brushes work just fine. My rifle spends 90% of its time in ...
I use it on my Hart .308 work rifle, the bore brushes work just fine. My rifle spends 90% of its time in a drag bag so I am able to carry a rod and only use the cords for back up. The 10% of the time that it's out of the bag my rifle is put through some horrid conditions and environments. I do carry Remington patches and cut up white cloth to use as sometimes I don't have time to make a little flower of a patch. If the patch were to get stuck I just push it through with my rod. The Otis oil and cleaner is CLP I prefer Remington so I carry both. The little bag has a ton of room and is very quiet to zip open and closed a must for someone who needs their set up to be unheard. The leatherette pouch doesn't take spray paint well so I used multicam tape. The brushes are not too abrasive and leave a nice bit of copper in the barrel for those guys who understand mid to long range shooting and point of impact coefficients. I'd recommend this kit to anyone who knows what they are doing with a rifle.Hart Custom 700 SA .308H&S ChassisNightforce Beast 5-25x56

Expected Better
First let me say this is not a bad kit, I just expected better. I bought one of these Otis cleaning kits for my 5.56 and it is GREAT ! Came w/ everything you need to properly clean that caliber rifle. This kit did not have as many tools. Just the basic/bare minimum stuff and seemed a little pricey for what you get. Perhaps it's my fault for not doing enough research into it before purchasing. I ASSUMED it would come w/ the same tools as the one I bought for the 5.56.That being said, the only other complaint I have is that the cleaning patches in this kit DO NOT fit in my 308.I attached a patch according to the directions that Otis gives (mind you I have done this before w/ the 5.56 kit so I know what I'm doing here ) and started to pull the patch through the barrel ( starting at the breech ) and the patch got stuck about 1.5 inches in. I had to unscrew the cable (bore-snake ) and push the patch back out using a brass rod I have for just such an emergency. These patches measure about 3. 25 in diameter so I tried trimming them down and finally got one to go through the bore at around 2.75 in diameter. Perhaps it was just a bad batch or loaded w/the wrong size patches, but for the money I paid for this kit.....again, I expected better.

Do not order this item. It isn't what it says it is
I have several Otis products and I love them. I have ordered this item twice and both times received the packaging that states it is a .30 rifle cleaning kit. When opened the item includes a .45 and .38 cleaning brushes, which should not be used on a .30 barrel. The website description and the package states it comes with a .30 cal brush and has no mention of a .45 cal brush. I think it's possible that there was a series of mix ups with labels as Otis is a very reputable company. But buyer beware.

Great travel cleaning kit
I love this product and it is a perfect travel companion for cleaning a rifle. This kit came with a lot of accessories and a nice carry case to go with this. I bought this to clean my LR 308 and it has some extra cleaning stuff to it so it can work with my AR-15 too. I have used this kit for about six months now and it has had no short comings yet.

Double check the kit, mine had the wrong components.
Bought this kit for my brand new Christensen .300 Win Mag. The patches that this kit came with looked a little too big to begin with, but this is my first time using OTIS products and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Literally the very first solvent-soaked patch I ran (or tried to) the barrel, it got stuck. Realllyyy stuck. An hour and a half later of prodding and pulling on the cable, I finally got the patch backed out of the barrel. Not sure what happened with this kit but obviously there was a major screw up with their packaging. Make sure to double check before using.

I like this product for its small size/portability
I like this product for its small size/portability. However, the size should be a little bigger for the zipper. I've had problems getting the zipper around the interior panels. All pieces are made from quality materials except the oil; it seems generic. Also the foam cut-outs could be a little more generous in their sizing; its a beast getting the brushes back in the correct spots. I use this to clean my M1 Garand; it seems to work just fine. I keep it in my range bag for range cleanings if necessary.

Great cleaning kit
Works great except for the patches it comes with. First one i tried got stuck in the barrel and i followed how it said how to fold it. Great cleaning pack but be careful with the patches or get smaller ones

The best compact cleaning system!
First time trying the Otis cleaning kits & very easy to see what all the hype is about, the most slick cleaning system by far! Cleaning kits contain ONLY what you need depending on which kit you choose. Everything stores neatly in a very compact case that takes up very little room...have mine in my hard rifle case so it's always with my rifle! Fittings & brushes are superior to most other brands, good threads on all fittings & memory-flex cables are nicely coated. The .45cal brush is perfect for cleaning out .308 chamber. Case has enough room to add extra brushes, patches & solvent. Don't let the small size fool you, you'll be surprised what you can fit into this kit!Only thing I'd recommend is swivel fitting at handle to allow cable to rotate freely with rifling. Attachments follow rifling but cable does not. This causes cable to wind up under pressure, which can whip around as it exits the barrel. I also added acid-proof heat shrink over fittings to further prevent scraping inside of rifle bore. Will only go with the Otis cleaning kits from here on out!

Good and portable. would recommend with one caution
I like the kit and its portability, fits in my case and goes any where the rifle does. Be careful when using the Otis patches if not put into the holder correctly they can be too bulky and get stuck in the barrel. This did happen to me as you might expect by the comment. an easy fix was a 1/8 piece of wooden dowel. I used it to push the patch back through the barrel ( bolt action ). make sure you use a wood dowel as it is unlikely to damage and rifling.Other thank the operator error on my part, this is a good kit the patches do do a good job in contacting with the barrel and ensure a clean surface.

MUCH better than a bore snake
MUCH better than a bore snake. I used it on a rifle that was cleaned with a bore snake and all of the patches still came out very dirty.
