My dad is 93 and his 12 year old PC just wasn't cutting it anymore. Rather than build a new tower, I suggested a mini PC. This is easily 10 times as fast as his old machine and really performs well! Really nice specs and superior cooling with the larger fan design/upgrade over the older K8 model. He doesn't game, but the built in iGPU can easily handle 1080 gaming and all his video needs without breaking a sweat. The win11 Pro install that it comes with is nice and clean - no crapware or shovelware preinstalled. This is the perfect household computer - plenty of power/connectivity to handle PC chores of any kind and loaded with ports/features in a really small form factor that can easily be mounted to the rear of a monitor (comes with a VESA plate adapter/screws for doing so, which is what I did.) Highly recommended!

With the end of support for Windows 10 approaching and all of my desktops not meeting requirements for Windows 11, it was time to shop for new computers. I decided to look at mini PC’s for our office and home. After reading reviews for several brands, I decided to go with the GMKtec M5 Plus Gaming Mini PC Ryzen 7 5825U. It comes with 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth and triple display.The package arrived on the date promised and set up was quick and straightforward. First thing I was pleased to see was the installed version of Windows 11 Pro allowed me to set up with a Local Account without requiring signing in with a Microsoft account.Once the initial set up was completed, I proceed to install programs and apps that I use on a daily basis. The navigating is lightning fast. All pages open and load quickly. After about of week of using it, I could never go back to using my older Windows 10 desktops. They all move at a snail’s pace compared to this new mini PC. There were a good number of Windows updates that needed to be installed to bring Windows 11 current, but now that all of those have been completed there have been no interruptions.I did notice some fan noise, so in Windows 11 I adjusted the Power Mode from Balanced to Best Power Efficiency. This quieted the unit and I did not notice any heat issues from the unit.Bottom line and to summarize, the GMKtec mini PC is a solid performer, and great value for the investment. I have 3 more older desktops to replace and will surely be ordering more of these.

UPDATE 2:Welp the newest one works so I suppose it was indeed a qc issue after all. Updated back to 4 stars since this one works. Amazon's return policy saved me so a+ to Amazon for that.UPDATE:So I bought a 2nd one and...it had a hardware malfunction and I had to return it.The replacement...has the EXACT same hardware error. What are the odds??I am going to assume that quality control is very poor. I still like the 1st one that works, but after this fiasco with having to return it AGAIN I will not be giving them any more chances. Disappointed.You know....my expectations were pretty low going into this but I am pleasantly surprised. It feels solid enough, came on with no issues(lots of updates to do though), and as I had hoped, is total overkill for a movie streaming computer. Extremely snappy, even at higher resolutions(2k/4k). Also very quiet. No issues at all so far. If it lasts this way another month or so I will grab a couple more because it seems like a very nice value so far. Also this particular company seems to have better specs for your money(I looked at a bunch of similar models that were anywhere from$20-200 more).

Been using this for a little while now and it’s honestly way better than I expected. Super quiet, fast, and handles everything I need for running my business. I’ve got a bunch of tabs open all the time, I do estimates, emails, some light video editing in Resolve, and it doesn’t lag or stutter.It’s not made for gaming or anything crazy like 3D rendering, but for what I do—mostly work-related stuff and a bit of editing—it’s perfect. The 32 gigs of RAM is nice to have, and the 1TB SSD is fast and gives me plenty of space.It’s super compact too. Doesn’t take up any room on the desk and it stays cool and quiet no matter what I throw at it.What I like:Small, fast, and quietGreat for multitasking and business stuffCan handle light video editingGood storage and RAMSetup was easyWhat it’s not for:Gaming or anything super graphics-heavyIf you need a ton of power for creative work, you’ll want something biggerBut overall, really happy with it. Great little PC for what I need.
