About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. More than olives. How did you come up with the idea for this product? I was born and raised in the Ouzoud region of the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. This mountainous region is incredibly picturesque and gets its name from the Ouzoud Waterfalls, the tallest in Morocco. The word ouzoud/auzoud means “olive” in Berber, my native language and that of the indigenous people of Morocco and North Africa. Ouzoud’s waters contribute to the region’s fertile agricultural land, which is dotted with many small, family owned olive farms. These families still use traditional methods to harvest their olives every year. Like many of the farmers in this region, my grandfather has a small olive farm that was passed down from generation to generation...it has been in my family for as long as anyone can remember. Now ninety-four years old, my grandfather still lives off the land and the olive grove is still producing. As a child, I spent part of each year helping family and neighbors pick olives by hand during the harvest season. We would quickly move the olives to a small mill to press this extraordinary olive oil that we all loved for its full flavor and aroma. After moving to the U.S. I became inspired by my childhood memories and my connection with my ancestors’ land to help the communities I left behind. I also wanted to share the experience of quality olive oil, which is so much a part of life in Morocco, with my American family and friends. I want people here to be able to experience an authentic and flavorful olive oil of the kind that is often difficult to find in the U.S. But just as important for me is the ability to help others prosper and improve their lives, and to honor the hard work of my grandfather and the local farmers from our region. Now we have expanded and are working with three cooperatives in Morocco. All cooperative members are small-scale farmers, many of them single mothers and young people hoping for a stable income to help their families. By far the best part of our startup experience has been connecting and working closely with hundreds of small farmers from my home region. I love engaging with them and learning their stories. Like my grandfather, most of the farmers we work with have olive trees that have been passed down for many generations. As they finally, now, receive fair pay for their products, many farming families are able to greatly improve their quality of life and transform local conditions by, for example, sending their children to school. Olive fanatic weighs in
We buy a lot of high grade olives as our typical lunch is olives, cheese and crackers. I usually buy a different brand of dried olives but thought to give these a try and was pleasantly surprised. Very good, soft and lots of flesh. If you never have tried dried olives you might be put off by the salt and texture but learn what kind of olives you like. A more traditional and also excellent olive would be Castelvetrano. Also, if you really like olives never buy pitted ones which lose most of the flavor.

These are AMAZING!
OMG, I love these olives! They are meaty and delicious. Luckily, I love salty, because these are very salty. I might try soaking them in water, and maybe changing out the water a couple of times, to see if I can remove some of the salt. If not, no big deal. I eat these for a snack every day.For all the people who threw out their bags because they thought they tasted or looked strange, people, this is the way olives are supposed to taste. The kind you are used to are brined, which takes away some of the natural bitterness and gives them a different taste and texture, nothing like what an olive really tastes like. Oil-cured olives are supposed to look wrinkly too.I have tried the Sunfood brand, but these are so much better.

Best on Amazon for this niche type of black olive
Not as salty as some of the Moroccan dried olives I have tried. Great Price. Comes in vacuum sealed poly-bag,so will need to be prepared to olives for day to day use.This brand was the best quality /best quality I have found on Amazon over 4 different bulk black olives I purchases in 3 years. These black olives with pits have a strong taste,and I prefer them to eat separately rather that placing in salads or casseroles,which they could easily overwhelm if using intemperately!

Nom, nom, nom, nom . . .
Absolutely amazing. I think the negative reviews reflect a narrow range of “experience.”These are meaty, bold, salty, dense . . , in short, exactly what you want in an oil cured Moroccan olive. Much meatier and plumper than I expected. Holy olives these are good. Can not wait to make an olive pesto or olive-walnut tapenade with these. And no, won’t need to add salt to any recipe you use these in, the salt is here.Too salty? Well, if you don’t what you’re buying, probably.These are even better than I hoped.So glad they support a great business model, too. Look forward to buying their capers and harissa next!

fermented olives with the burn of alcohol
I'm not sure if this is the intention, but these olives were DEFINITELY fermented. They smelled and tasted like alcohol, and when you eat them you get the familiar 'burn' of spirits evaporating into the ether. Not pleasant. The taste was pungent and fairly disgusting. Pungent in and of itself isn't an issue...but I was not expecting alcohol in my olives. We won't be buying these again.

Excellent quality but the package weight was smaller than expected. Weighed the item twice on two different scales. 4.4lbs. Not the 5lbs as stated. Guess "fair trade" is not so fair.

Best Moroccan olives you can buy. You won’t be dissatisfied
Perfect Moroccan olives. Delicious Less salty than expected which was a big plus for me. Better than the dried up ones from your deli or jar in the supermarket.My mom is Moroccan and she loves them. Perfect table or cooking olive. I also love the fact these olives are grown an prepared by women, giving them opportunity to support themselves and their families. Will purchase again shortly. You will not be disappointed. Packaging was great no spills. Also I did not receive a discount or anything for review. Just a happy customer

Yes they are salty but otherwise fantastic
I've eaten a lot of cured olives in my lifetime. These are definitely the best I have had -- very tasty, plump and fresh. The only two things wrong -- they are A BIT too salty -- not enough to be a deal breaker though. Also, one does not really tast the olive oil and it's interesting that olive oil is not listed as one of the ingredients, only olives and salt, so I guess they are not really packed in olive oil though it may be part of the curing process.
