Digestible pieces
I hate long, lecturing self-help books. We’ve been able to go through this, small bits at a time.

Very Helpful!
Dr. Rockwell-Evans does a great job of putting words to the tricky rules of OCD and incorporating values-work and self-compassion into ERP. I would highly recommend. The examples are very relatable and it includes clear, step-by-step practice exercises. As a therapist, I also really appreciate the handouts to use with clients. Dr. Rockwell-Evans really understands OCD and her passion for her work really comes through in this book!

Well organized and thorough
As a therapist specializing in OCD treatment and a sufferer myself, I have read many books on this topic. This may be one of the most thorough and well organized titles of the bunch! Rockwell-Evans does a fantastic job balancing the use of narrative examples, clinical information, and practical exercises. I particularly appreciate that the tone of this book is one of compassion and understanding which can be so important when the voice of OCD is so shaming. This read will be relevant for sufferers, clinicians, and loved ones alike. I will be adding it to my regular recommendation list for clients looking to better understand the tricks our brains can play on us.

Not just your average OCD help book
As an OCD provider, I am always looking for novel ways to help my clients. This book fulfilled that need! The disorder itself was explained in a very strait forward fashion, along with helpful skills to introduce fighting OCD with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have used the "uncertainty script" with my clients and they report is has helped them make the shift from seeing their obsessions as real and something they needed to act on immediately to embracing uncertainty so they can live a value-driven life. Thank you Dr. Rockwell-Evans!

Helpful, Conversational Guide
This book about living with OCD is written in a very conversational style, and it explains complex concepts in simple ways, without bogging down in scientific details that may not appeal to the average reader. The author covers a wide variety of different sub-types, which I appreciated, and in addition to addressing particular therapies that work well with OCD, she also wrote topical chapters about specific struggles that people with OCD usually have, such as believing that they have to be certain about things, or that you have to pay attention to and analyze every thought you have. The author includes case studies and examples throughout the book about people with different types of OCD, but these are just illustrations. I appreciate that instead of taking a deep dive into individual stories and drawing implications from them, she focuses on broad themes and experiences that are common across OCD types, and just uses specific examples to illustrate how someone can deal with this. Overall, I thought this book was clear and helpful, and I would recommend it to people who are suffering from OCD, and to their support systems. This book's conversational style and accessibility will make it especially helpful for people who are new to learning about OCD.

Wonderful resource for clinicians and those with OCD
Kim Rockwell-Evans has written a book that will appeal to both clinicians and those with lived experience of OCD. She breaks down OCD by revealing some of its sneakiest rules and tricks, empowering people to chip away at the mortar that holds it together. The chapters are engaging, easy to read, and full of practical suggestions culled from evidence based techniques such asACT, CBT, ERP, and self compassion. It's like a behind the scenes look at the disorder that can seem so murky and vexing to those who suffer from it.

Practical guide for fighting OCD
You may think that you don’t need another book about OCD, however you would be wrong. Dr. Rockwell-Evan’s book is a guide to breaking the rules of OCD using mindfulness, curiosity, acceptance and self compassion. As a therapist who treats OCD, I found so many gems In this book and I cannot wait to use them with my patients. I especially love her illustration of the the maintenance cycle of OCD and will definitely be included that when I teach psychoeducation. I also appreciate how Dr. Rockwell-Evan’s uses SMART goals to attack the ERP menu and to help individuals with OCD connect goal setting to their values. My favorite quote from the book is “Curiosity promotes willingness to discover what works even when you are anxious”. I definitely recommend this book.
