They do such an excellent job.
We live in the countryside where local stables are happy to give bagged horse manure to gardeners. Having started with one large compost bin, we now have six benefitting from a mixture of that manure mixed with garden and household waste. In order to accelerate the composting process we opted for worms and are very pleased with the results. The first bin which became ready for use had a rich black soil most gardeners can only dream of producing. It was so rich I immediately ordered more worms and, of course, they have continued to thrive and multiply. Only last evening I dug a small trough to empty the contents of the kitchen waster bucket and found far more worms than I had ever purchased. In addition to adding this truly excellent compost to our flower borders to front and rear, we also used a great deal as 'underlay, for new lawns. Those lawns are as green in winter as the day they were laid.Fully recommended - because they do such an excellent job.NMPS: I made a mistake and the contents of one bin became too wet. When I lifted the lid all the worms were at the top - trying to get out. There were at least TEN times more than I had ever purchased. Lesson learned and problem solved but it is fair to say these worms really are an excellent purchase.

The postman could not believe what he was delivering or ...
The postman could not believe what he was delivering or the lecture I gave him on the 'Worms beneath your feet' As he said one learns something every day. I divided them into two lots and put them to work. Each half has about a cubic meter of composting to do. I guess they consider they have quite a job on as I have not seen the one of them since putting them to work. Its an on-go-ing project for them and me. Currently the jury is out and we await a verdict.

Happy and healthy worms
The worms arrived promptly and were appropriately packed for their transit from the supplier. On receipt, the worms were in excellent condition and seemed very content. I placed them in my wormery which is a proprietary state of the art abode and they settled down quickly, within hours. Later, most of the worms had disappeared into the soil layer and were acclimatising to their new environment.I have purchased these worms previously, and chose the 250g pack size with the expectation that (all things being well) the worm population would naturally increase. If not, then having a larger initial population wouldn't be advantageous.I will be keeping a close watch over the subsequent days until the worms have settled down and are thriving, but everything is looking fine to date. The instructions supplied are brief but clearly written, and there is plenty of information on-line about how to maintain a wormery and keep your worms thriving.

Worms
I was delighted to receive my worms and couldn't wait to open the package. Inside I found two tubs of worms hidden beneath some very dark soil. The worms looked heAlthy and I left the lids off the tubs to allow them to reveal themselves. What a surprise they looked healthy and pinkish with large and small ones. ( I do have an ability to distinguish healthy worms from unhealthy ones after spending my childhood working in the fields picking potatoes for pocket money) Anyway I digress, I took the worms out to my new composting bin, it was very windy but a Robin watched me and kept me company. I decided I needed more soil for the worms and went off to dig some earth on my return the bloody Robin had hopped down and was having a luxurious buffet ! Luckily he didn't take them all and I was able to retrieve the rest for the compost bin.

At work in my wormeries
We compost everything, either in a hotbox (not entirely suitable for worms) or in wormeries. This includes dog faeces, which the worms change into a usable fertiliser (but not for the fruit and vegetable garden).
