Are these truly mortising chisels or are they bench chisels?

Bench chisels. The nomenclature is confusing. They are definitely not mortise chisels. Specifically they have bevels that taper to roughly 1 mm flats near the cutting edge, to my mind this technically makes them firmer chisels as the bevel is not to a complete point. whatever you want to call them, they are very nice.

Are these the same as their mortise chisels but a different handle?

The mortise chisels do have a different handle that is specially designed to take heavy blows from a mallet.

what is the difference between 8112 and 8116?

As near as I can tell the only difference between these two models is the color of the handles. Why the price difference? The natural wood finish may be in greater demand, but your guess is as good as mine. In general, pricing on Amazon has always been a curious thing to me.
