Asking questions and analyzing themes such as love, war, politics, and the personal, Collins presents short, blunt poems.While some poems worked well together, others confused me both in terms of subject and style. Some poems were so minimal or “poetic” that they were sporadic to the point of confusion. Maybe it was just me, but I felt like I was missing critical details of the narrative, making the book as a whole hard to follow.With that being said, there were several poems that I enjoyed which really made me stop and think. I also love the cover. I feel like it truly captures the snapshot theme of the book as a whole.

Martha Collins's "Day Unto Day" is a ruminative set of six poetic sequences, like a half-year's daily meditations, ranging from the the intimate to the global. As if taking to heart the Latin expression, Nulla dies sine linea, no day without its line, Collins's poems here remind us of the scintillant mystery of what it means to be alive, and encounter each new day with new eyes.
