Amii Stewart, a Washington native was in the touring company of the stage production Bubbling Brown Sugar in 1975 in Miami, Broadway, and eventually London's West End, where she met Barry Leng, a record producer for Hansa records. Her first single release, YOU REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART a Barry Leng/Simon May composition produced by Leng, appeared in 1978. An album followed which contained two notable cover versions. Amii first hit with a disco cover version of the Eddie Floyd hit KNOCK ON WOOD, which reached number one in the U.S. in April 1979, earning her a platinum record and Grammy nomination. It also reached number 6 in the UK, and number 2 in Australia. Later in the year she followed it with another disco cover version of The Doors'' LIGHT MY FIRE, as a medley incorporating 137 DISCO HEAVEN. In early 1980 Amii released a further medley of the two Motown classics MY GUY and MY GIRL - which charted in the UK top 40 - as a duet with Johnny Bristol. "FRIENDS" returned Amii to the UK chart in 1985. On the back of this new success Leng decided to issue a double A-Side single featuring KNOCK ON WOOD and LIGHT MY FIRE/137 DISCO HEAVEN in brand new 1985 remixes. The single was a huge success in the UK where it peaked at number 7. Leng then set about creating a whole album of new mixes of his Amii Stewart productions which was released as "The Hits" in late 1985.

knock on wood trys..
It's great to have this CD, I have a full 12inch copy of knock on wood on CD and it's still a great track, the whole album is ok and put together very well, but you can tell why this fine singer had only a couple of hits, she should have been given a lot more choice of songs, great voice and I think very under used as a singer, its a album for the lovers of great dance and great disco tracks I think.

Loved it but would have liked the 1985 megamix to. Just greedy I guess!

Hideous Remixes!
Not a patch on the original versions. Nasty 80's remixes take everything away from the fantastically produced originals. Source the original versions and avoid this compilation at all costs!

A wasted Chance Of A greatest Hits CD.
This was a wasted chance for lots more to be added here which could have been a Greatest Hits CD to date. Some of Amii's other hits are not added here at all .It would have been better if the original hits was on one CD & then the remixes on another CD plus more ,bonus tracks added to both CDS this then, would have made this a sure winner for all Amii Stewart fans out there.?I still cannot fully understand why in 2016 some record label have not reissued some of Amii's original albums on to CD ? Try Love, Paradise Bird albums to name but two. These would have been great to be reissued & with any bonus tracks added.. Its time that we her fans should not be left out of the reissue market.
