Found One That WORKS At Last!!
It took trying out 5 different brands of new rechargeable upright/handvac vacuum cleaners after my old one gave up the ghost, but I've finally found one that does what I need it to do! It's not totally perfect, there are some design features I'd change if it was up to me, but it does what I most need. PROS: 1. It vacuums floors and carpeting especially low pile carpeting efficiently including extracting pet fur. We have 2 old Siamese cats and an old long haired Australian Shepherd mix. They all shed more in their old age. This vacuum does a good job of surface to medium depth cleaning into the carpet fibers and collects the fur well. 2. The roller brush is removable for easy removal of longer pet fur that tends to wrap around the roller AND the roller brush DOES NOT allow a ball of fur to get easily lodged between the end of the roller and the drive gear and stop the roller from turning. For, the sake of good general maintenance, I am still removing the roller every 3 or 4 uses and cleaning off the roller and the roller's ends and drive gear. (*Note: I tried a model by Bissell which had ALL of the features I wanted, BUT the roller brush jammed up 3 times in a total of 6 minutes of operation. I'd remove the brush and clear out a small ball of fur that got wedged in the drive gear, only to have it jam up again within a couple of minutes, so that one went back!) 3. Both High and Low Speed Suction work well and stay consistent till the battery gets almost depleted. I haven't run it down to needing a full charge, but I have vacuumed 20 to 25 minutes non-stop without a significant suction drop. 4. The light is nice and bright. 5. It balances well in the hand and is not overly heavy and is easy to adjust for vacuuming under beds and dressers, etc. It can also stand upright by itself without the holding stand. In addition, the handle can be folded down. *This shortens the storage height of the unit, but does increase it's width front to back. 5. The debris cup is easy to empty and wipe clean or wash and holds about a cup and half of debris before needing to be emptied. 6. The inner filter is the re-usable washable foam sponge type. 7. The combo wand/brush fits the handvac snugly and works well. CONS: 1. The handvac unit releases well from the handle unit, but there isn't a good grip point on the handvac itself to help with pulling it away from the handle, so extracting it is awkward. 2. The ONLY option for charging the unit is that you HAVE to use the floor stand, you can't plug the charging cable into the hand/vac part - as is the case with most portable vacuums of this style. This greatly increases the size of the unit's foot print. I could tuck my old rechargeable vacuum behind my kitchen door, but that's not possible with this one because of floor stand is so big. 3. There is no attachment point on the vacuum that can hold the combo wand/brush so that you have it readily accessible during your vacuuming activities. The floor stand has a built in holder for the wand/brush unit, but that means you have to remember to remove the wand/brush unit and carry it about with you manually while vacuuming or you will have to walk back to your charging floor stand to get the wand/brush, if you need to use it. 4. The floor brush section would be a lot more user friendly if had about another 1/8th inch of clearance from the floor. It does well at picking up smaller bits of debris, but to get up bigger bits like a cheerio, larger pieces of cat litter or a small piece of dried cat kibble about 3/8th inch in diameter, you have to pick the floor vacuum's head up, position it in front of the larger debris, and then roll it backwards while holding the rear end of the brush section about a quarter inch above the floor. In effect you have to lower the brush head down on top of the debris. 5. The floor brush does reasonably well at sucking up debris on the side of the brush head's housing, but the suction there isn't as strong as it is on some other brand's models. So there you have it! This one has all the major bells and whistles most folks will need, and it works well without any major drawbacks!

Great customer service via email.
I purchased three. They do a great job for easy kitchen vacuuming. Both on bare floor and carpet. I use them mostly for light routine cleaning and have a corded vacuum for the tougher jobs. As long as you clean the filter periodically as directed, it has good suction. I had an issue with one unit right after the warranty expired. I contacted the company via email and they sent me a replacement at no charge. That is why I give Roomie Tech such high marks... great customer service, even out of warranty. Nice job and nice product, Roomie Tech!

Versatility
Third one! This is our third Roomie vac and we keep buying them because of their versatility, suction power, size and functionality. The hand held portion continues to work on the old one, but the floor piece won't pick up anything anymore. We will purchase a fourth one if we need another one in a few years as we haven't seen another that we wanted.

Edited twice, not worth the hassle
I have had 4-5 of these vacuums over the years. They have repeatedly replaced them when they've failed under warranty, which I appreciate, but the last time I had to pay to ship it back to them and then the new on they sent me quit working within 6 weeks - same problems as the last 2 I had. Some wiring short causes the light and brush roll to quit working. If these worked as designed they would be a dream, I have recommended them to so many people, but I'm done with it. Seems like the quality has just gotten worse and worse.OLD REVIEW: This is a handy little vacuum and I would definitely recommend it. I was on the fence, since our corded vacuum is perfectly fine, but this has changed my life! It's extremely lightweight, the swivel action is SO easy to navigate around furniture, the suction is decent and the battery life is great. I especially love that the battery automatically stops charging when it's reached capacity so that it doesn't burn out; every other plug in Dustbuster or vacuum we've had ends up barely holding a charge when they are plugged in charging 24/7 for too long. My house is 2500 sq ft and has dark wood floors constantly left dirty by 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 kids, and a husband. We have a nice Oreck for deep cleaning, but I pretty much only pull that out once every week or two and use this stick vacuum every day or every other day in between. I can easily do a quick sweep of the entire house on a single charge and still have life left. It doesn't pick up everything - it does great with hair and cat litter and crumbs, not so great with big things like cheerios. It works well when level with the ground, but if it's not hovering right over something it can't suck it up, so like if one side of it runs up on the edge of a rug or something else not level, it won't do a good job.Initially I had only given 4 stars because I was having a hard time squeezing my fingers into this little crevice to clean out the hair and gunk that got stuck in part of the filter. After I posted my review, I got an e-mail from the company explaining how to simply twist the red part to separate it and making removing any stuck debris a breeze! MIND BLOWN. I had no idea it came apart and I'm so glad they company contacted me to give me this tip.Get yourself one of these - it's a great investment and totally saves my sanity for less than $100.
