Broken rod
JUNK. Do not purchase, cannot recommend. Purchased this with high hopes as a heavy spinning rod that would be transportable given it is telescopic and very long which would make things incredibly convenient. I purchased the heaviest/toughest version of the diawa megacast rod 3.53-10.58 oz. It is beautifully made and a pleasure to cast however. First time out on a hookset it snapped right in half right at one of the telescopic joints. I was really sad so I disassembled the rod and rebuild it loosing a few inches of overall length. I took it out fishing again and after about a half hour of casting the rod shattered again in TWO places (another telescopic joint mid rod which was different than the one I repaired AND right at the tip). This was on a simple overhead lob cast using only 4 oz of weight which is the bottom end of what the rod is rated for.

The right telescopic fishing rod
I've been searching for a telescopic fishing rod that's at least 10 ft long for quite a while. Most of the ones I found are either too expensive or poor quality. This Daiwa rod fits the bill on both. The rod is only 3.5 ft long when folded and 11 ft when fully expanded, perfect for fly fishing but very convenient to transport. I really like the build quality, the rod material is carbon fiber and seems rugged enough to stand the test of time, and the handle has a nice look and feel. At $100, this is not a cheap rod but it won't break the bank either. I'm yet to take it for a test drive but it looks and feels great. I'll update this review after using it on a few fishing trips. For now, I think a 3.5-4 star rating is reasonable.

Amazing travel rod
Great action for a telescopic rod. easy set up and locks into place without ever collapsing while using it. hands down beats all the cheap ones as it should for its price. only real gripe would be the haft (pole handle) is a bit too long. it's good for long casts but kind of gets in the way when retrieving...
