Brilliant design!
Brilliant! I've used an Anova device since ~2015 but this is far smaller, works in much smaller containers, lesser water levels, etc. I.e I can pull this out to use at any time rather than hauling out a large pot. And the reliance on the app isn't a negative here (i.e. that it doesn't have on-unit buttons or display): the app has a huge selection of recipes and timings as well. The best, of those I've lived with previously. (Anova and Instant pot.)

If you want a consistent well cooked meal, buy and use this
Love this device. We use it about weekly and most often for ribs (I know...sacrilegious, right?!). I used to like fighting with the smoker, but these are SO consistently excellent that we are converts (we do finish them off with BBQ sauce and a quick run on the grill to caramelize them a smidge). Also have had really good luck with steak and salmon. Still exploring other cooking options. Very easy to use, the app links easily to our phones and gives temperature and you just kind of plug in what you are cooking, add some parameters and go. As an aside, we are planning a wedding soon and the caterer uses a similar but industrial size system for much of his cooking (and he is SUPER!). recommendations: get a "bucket with a lid" to keep the water warm and reduce need for refilling. Also use a vacuum sealer to prep the items: well worth the hassle and expense. We use a EVERIE sous vide container and Anova culinary precision vacuum sealer pro. Bought all products on Amazon and have written reviews for them. Still working on what bags work best for the sealer. Not completely happy with what we have used thus far (except that the bags that came with the sealer worked flawlessly).

The negative reviews are legit.
Update as of 9/28/2024: I initially contacted Breville support regarding the problems that I was having. I can honestly say that was a huge mistake. As others have stated, they feel that they make no faulty devices and the problem must be with the customer and/or the setup. I was told that my problems must have been with my wireless network setup. If that was true, the device should have lost the connection AND kept cooking. Their attempts at trying to diagnose my problems completely ignored the fact that it stopped cooking when it shouldn't. Support was totally inept and illogical. Having tried Breville support and finding that to be a big mistake, I figured I would go ahead and initiate a return & replacement with Amazon having only a few days to spare. I received the replacement within a few days, and immediately cooked a ribeye without any issues. I tried several more test cooks, and not once did I experience any of the failures I did with the first defective device. Having said the above, I won't be improving my rating of the product due to the issues I experienced and the dismissiveness of legitimate problems by support representatives of the manufacturer. Customers should expect and receive better, especially from a device that retails for $245. Today is 8/24/2024, and I was excited to try out this purchase just delivered. Initial setup was relatively easy in the Breville+ app for iPhone. I had it on the Wi-Fi network in a minute. The device immediately wanted to perform an update, so I let that finish which took a few minutes. At that point I decided to try a cook. I had a frozen pork tenderloin, and after the usual prep & choosing my settings, I set the device for auto and went about my other chores with a 1hr, 45min approximate cook time. Well, an hour later I noticed the device had stopped circulating. I looked at the app, and it had a pop up that it had lost Wi-Fi connectivity, but that it should continue with the cook--IT DOES NOT! The temperature had dropped down to 129 degrees from the 149 degrees as set, so I know it did not complete the cook. Thinking this may just be a one-off occurrence, I manually set the device for a 150 degree hour long cook. After coming back to temperature, the device ran for 10 minutes and again lost Wi-Fi connection and STOPPED cooking. Of course, it's still there because I could immediately restart the cook from the app, but you must go through the cook setup again. It's like the device is resetting every time. For $245, I expect better. I don't know how far the first cooking attempt progressed, but this is definitely not something you can just set and forget. I tried contacting support, but my gosh...it requires you input a serial number and model number. The model number on the box (BSV600PSS1BNA1) doesn't match anything in their support system. You must truncate the last 5 digits I suppose--they don't advise you in any way. You would think that after inputting a serial number that information would auto populate and not require manual entry, but I digress. Now, they want the device batch code which I'm guessing is on a label not prominently displayed while the device is submerged trying to do its cooking thing once again. What a mess! I'll try finishing this cook, and might try contacting Breville support once again; but I'm already leaning towards just boxing this back up for a refund and getting a manual device. I wanted to like this thing that has glaring positive reviews, but we're not off to a good start.

For the cook that forgets
I love sous vide. I wish I would’ve discovered it sooner. The app makes everything easy. I can see where in the cooking process. I am at any time. And for the family that forgets to show up on time, nothing is ever ruined by an extra 10 minutes wait for an extra hour or two. Everything will still come out perfect.

Most used thing in my kitchen.
I actually have had a Joule since before Breville bought them, so like about a decade. This is Hans’s down the best Sous vide immersion circulator on the market. I’ve actually used them so much that I burned through two of them before purchasing my third last week. I seriously mean that I use them for almost every dinner I make. Swordfish comes out perfectly moist and flaky, while remaining firm. Steak is perfectly medium rare edge to edge. Turkey breast? The absolute juiciest you’ll ever make in your life. I’ve even done a 24 hour tri tip in it before. It was the most incredibly tender tri tip I’ve ever made in my life. The possibilities are absolutely endless. Pair this with a chamber vacuum sealer, and you’ve basically turned your kitchen into a Michelin Starred restaurant. Whether you’re someone who has cooked for years or a novice, the Joule has you covered. You legit can’t overcook something if you tried because it only raises your product to the perfect doneness temp and holds it there. I truly cannot recommend this enough. I use it all the damn time and you will too when you get it!

Joule Turbo review
First go at a sous vide machine. I like the compact size, it heats water faster than I expected and keeps a constant temperature. Because of size it only has app controls, which has worked perfectly fine for me. Unit is very quiet and easy to clean. I have only used for meats so far and has worked very well.

Bought this for my son for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. He has been using it non stop, for different meals, different types of meats and vegetables. He hasn't had a fail yet. The accuracy of the app in setting the exact right times/temps makes every meal come out perfect. I've been lucky enough to enjoy a couple of these meals myself, and I can attest to the perfection of the results. I wondered if it would be an issue in that it only works off an app, no switch or settings on the actual unit, but my son doesn't mind that at all, in fact, he prefers to use an app regardless.

O equipamento é simplesmente muito bom, mas tem restrição para uso fora dos EUA e CANADÁ.

This came with an American plug, item had to be returned after waiting 2 weeks for it. - disappointed friend on Christmas Day Update: I bought an adapter before returning, I went to the App Store only to be told that ‘This app is not currently available in your country or region’. As there is no controls on the actual Joule, this item is useless. Why would you even ship to this country when it can’t be used here?

I chose this model after reading several independent reviews which judged it the best. It did not disappoint. Although there was a slight hiccup connecting to the app (the Joule Turbo needs to connect through the Breville+ app NOT the Joule app) but once connected, it couldn’t be simpler. I just choose what I want to cook and the app gives step by step directions. The appliance is small and compact and I like the magnetic base although it does have a clip to attach it to the container. I cooked steaks which were perfectly medium rare, something I’ve rarely been able to achieve on the grill. Ribs and pork tenderloin cooked equally well. There are dozens of recipes available on the Breville+ and Joule apps and I’m looking forward to trying more. I highly recommend the Joule.

I have utilized this product approximately five times, and I am thoroughly impressed with its functionality. It operates flawlessly and operates with minimal noise. While I have not conducted a temperature measurement using a thermometer, the steaks I have cooked have been perfectly cooked.
