I wanted to wait until 2 months after use before posting my honest review. I’ve been using Nioxin hair serum consistently for about 67 days. I apply it directly to my scalp (I part my hair into sections, then spray), I then use a scalp massager massaging my scalp for 3 minutes. I’ve been doing this twice a day. My hair is fairly healthy, but I’ve been having issues with shedding since summer. I have fine hair that’s low density. What I’ve experienced since I started using is little to no shedding- definitely shedding less than the normal 50-100 strands. In the 2 plus months I have about 2 inches of hair growth (I purchased one of those hair growth tracking tshirts). I find many serums/oils boast hair growth, but few talk about growth retention. My hair is stronger and most importantly thicker. Overall I love it and find it to be very effective! Now a very small minus is the smell which takes some getting used to. The product has a sandalwood smell which I am not a fan! What I did to “lessen” the smell is I apply 1-2 small sprays closely to my scalp then I spread the serum across my scalp using my finger- I don’t smell anything doing this. The serum doesn’t make your hair oily or greasy after applying. You can use sparingly (1-2 pumps) then use a scalp massager to spread it around. I purchased for 50 USD, but I feel like this will last me 4-5 months even applying twice a day. I don’t think it has protein in it which is great because I am protein sensitive and I find many of the popular hair oils contain protein. Overall it’s a great product and I will continue to use it.

It works. I started using it in May and now I can see a big change. After using for 1 month, I can see lots of new baby hairs. Now my baby hairs have grown long enough as bangs length. As for anti fall, it helps reduce the hair fall, especially when it drys and you try to comb it. I can see almost no hair fall when I comb my dry hair. I can tell the new hairs are stronger and grow fast. The only negative thing I can say is the price. But do take a chance while it is on sale to stock a few bottles.

I don't know how well this product works because I simply could not get over its pungent fragrance. Gross. Listen, I love Nioxin. I've been an avid fan and daily user of its various leave-in products for years. YEARS. But, this is the first Nioxin product I had to throw out because it just smells SO BAD. The smell is not only pungent and strong, it's just straight-up bad. It smells like an incredibly offensive men's cologne - like cigars, tobacco, whiskey, smoke, and alcohol. It's so strong that it caused an eczema flare-up on my neck!! That was the final straw for me - if it hadn't triggered that eczema flare-up, I would've done my best to ignore the fragrance and I would've continued to use this product to test its effectiveness. But, after just three (3!!) uses, my neck became super red, itchy, scaly, and inflamed. Once I stopped using the product, my skin completely calmed down. I wanted to give Nioxin the benefit of the doubt so, after a long pause, I picked this up again. Bad idea. Alas, just three (3) uses in, once again, my eczema flared-up like crazy. This is definitely a NO-GO for me. Nioxin, can you PLEASE make this fragrance-free or with a lighter fragrance?!

I have been using Nioxin night density rescue serum for over a year and seeing some results, but I don't like how oily it makes my hair, so I decided to try this Nioxin hair fall defense serum when it went on sale due to the good reviews. Good news is it isn't oily, but I realized quickly that I should have listened to the not so good reviews. I am apparently one of the few sensitive to topical caffeine and also the sandalwood scent. The scent is overwhelming to me and lingers all day, giving me a headache, plus when I used it at night I had trouble sleeping, I assume due to the caffeine. So it's back to the other serum for me. BTW, the reason I'm using such products is due to very fine hair that has been thinning as I age, and then 2 cases of COVID in 2 years made it worse.

4 stars because I think this really works just isn’t for me. I really wanted this product as it has so many positive reviews for its intended use which is retaining existing hair and cutting down on shedding. I have caffeine sensitivity and did see it was #4 ingredient in the label so I was concerned but I had no way to know if topical application would produce similar results as ingesting caffeine. Well, it did. After 45 minutes it produced a fast heart rate over 160 and adrenaline rush similar to if I had drank too much caffeine. If only lasted an hour versus 4 hours from ingesting. Just be aware if you have this problem but otherwise I hear it works great. Disappears into the hair with no residue and does not affect styling or cause buildup. Wish I could use!

I bought this serum in May and have been using it consistently twice a week since then — and it’s been fantastic! My hair was shedding a lot due to stress, but now it feels fuller, healthier, and more beautiful. I’m genuinely so happy with this purchase and will definitely be buying more. Yes, the scent is very strong — and I’m someone who usually avoids strong smells, especially before bed. But I found that applying it early in the morning works perfectly; by nighttime, the scent has faded completely. This isn’t a hair growth serum but a density booster — and it absolutely delivers on that promise.

Honestly save your money, the only ingredient that's helping here is the caffeine. The research around benefits of sandalore is very preliminary and apart from making your scalp smell like incense it's likely not doing anything. If this was a more appropriately priced I would rate it higher (maybe)

Purchased this alone with the shampoo. I've only been using it for about a week so haven't seen a huge difference yet, but I love Nioxin products because they actually do what they say, so expecting great results. The scent is quite strong, but I like it so it's not a problem for me. I usually put this on at night because I have really fine hair that gets weighed down pretty easily. That said, this doesn't leave hair a sticky goopy mess so I could probably wear it during the day if I was so inclined. Note - first application I went a bit crazy and it does cause a bit of tingling but this only lasted for a minute or so. Use it sparingly!

This stuff works. I see a lot of comments saying it doesn’t but this product isn’t meant to create new hair growth, it’s to stop your hair from shedding like crazy. I noticed a huge difference in how much hair was in my brush every day. I stopped using it for a week and there was a noticeable amount of hair falling out compared to when I used it. The only complaint is the smell. Somewhat overwhelming in my opinion. Will repurchase.
