I bought this Ring doorbell with a certain amount of scepticism after reading some of the reviews. The Ring Camera is solid and quality unlike some of the alternative products on. I set it up very easily indoors on the table, the set up instructions within the Ring App are very good and easy to follow, the Ring Chime that I purchased with this item proved a little trickier to pair with my broadband after installing in the hallway, the router wouldn't connect properly so I brought the chime to the living room where my router is and paired it there at the 1st attempt, after an hour or so i moved it back to the hallway and it works fine. The many settings within the app allow you to set up the device for optimum battery use tailored to your needs. You can also tailor the alert zones immediately beyond and around the ring camera so that you only get the alerts that you want, which is particularly important if overlooking other properties and you don't want to be alerted every time a person walks past their house. The picture capture quality is very good. After the months free trial of recording, I thought I would not bother with it, but find it is very useful to have this as for a start your not always at home and sometimes you need proof of wrong doing and cant have that without the recording feature. Having a quick reply is good as well due to it taking me a bit of time getting to the door.

Why did you choose this product over others?:Purchased for a family member, for safety due to my good experiences with the previous 1, 2 & 3 versions. Due to the strong Ring brand, it’s presence is a deterrent, as people know what it can do & how easy it is to transfer footage to even police , if necessary, as the footage can be kept on their cloud for at least 30 days. & clips can be forwarded from there to whoever needs it. Amazed at the sharp quality of the lens & the colour in the day & night. You can now see head to toe easily but also even shows the driveway. You can even zoom in on the footage. Plus Easy for distant families to be authorised to have app access to the footage. To check on elderly relatives & check visits / post delivered safely & unwanted intruders.It came with a mount with a reversible small wedge so you can angle it on either side of the door to get a wider or narrower view

This arrived damaged, but I charged it up enough to test it to see if it would be worth ordering a replacement.To preface: I had originally ordered the much cheaper Blink, which I returned as it was really bad - lagging, no sound, delays with notification while testing in the house.The Ring is a MUCH better item. The picture quality is 1536, which was better than the Blink, but there was no lagging, no pixelation etc. It was much much better. The audio was good as well, and the fisheye camera has a better field of vision. Notifications are swift, and when you click on them there is no delay - it is a truly live display. I would say that my router is on the other side of the glass from the wall, where I held it to run tests - but compared to the Blink it outperformed easily.I haven't tried setting notification range etc as I was just checking to see if the functionality was better; when I get my replacement I will do a better review, but out of the box tests were all good.EDIT: just got my replacement a few days ago and I will start by saying wall mounting was a total pox. The holes I had to drill weren’t lining up to my bricks, some were over my (crumbling) pointing, so was no good. Ended up using the included corner mount as it only needed two holes to secure and I could line that up better. After a (sweaty) wall mounting (my bricks were a nightmare to drill into far enough) I got the ring attached to the solar panel they also sell, and got it all set up.I really really like the privacy mode - you basically draw a box to never even SEE a neighbours property on live mode, never mind a recording. Is fabulous. I am in an open-plan area and have two neighbours with camera doorbells pointed directly into my bedroom windows, so this is a great feature. I doubt they use it on theirs though. Gross.I was able to set my zone for motion to be just my property, and the way the camera is angled, I only pick up my steps, a bit of my lawn and a sliver of the road anyway, so that’s good. The only house I could see is now covered with the privacy box, even though they are reasonably far away, just to be sure I don’t infringe on their right to privacy.The app showed my post being delivered, but didn’t give me the package notification, although I think it’s because I got to the door quickly, responding to the person alert. I will leave it next time to see if I get the alerts. The only thing I’ve not had notifications for yet are the cats sitting on the doorstep. They must try harder to move.Night view is really clear, and the colour night mode is kind of weird, but good. Overall am very pleased.

The numerous settings within the app allow you to set up the device for optimum battery use tailored to the required needs. You can also tailor the alert zones immediately beyond and around the ring camera so that you only get the alerts that you want, which is particularly important if like me you live on a main road and you don't want to be alerted everytime a person walks past your house!
