If you need more increase your expresso quality I found this puck to be one great choice.

It doesn't go low enough on the original breville basket because the later tapers in a bit at the bottom. However, if you use an IMS precision basket, this filter will be perfect. It goes all the way to the edges and slides all the way to the bottom of the IMS basket and the material is good quality.

Not really understand the use and effect, so...

Does exactly what it's supposed to do - appears to be very nice quality. I suspect this is cut from sheets of industrial filtering material, probably exactly the same as higher priced versions. It seems to be a sintered stainless material sandwiched between two very fine mesh screens. I also appears to have been laser or water-jet cut from the material, resulting in fairly sharp edges. Nevertheless, it really improves the espresso shot.

The item is really useful to distribute pressure among the coffee.

58.5mm does not fit to Rancilio Silvia portafilter / basket., unless you replace the screen screw with a flat screwhead
