Pair of affordable 2B Oak sticks

Out there is a wide range of different drumsticks varying in length, diameter, weight, material, surface, head shape, balance and a couple of other characteristics.
The choice of the right stick is a question of what gives you the right feel and sound, and of course of the music you play...
Although there can't be any generalities here are some simplified decision guidances

7A Sticks are lightweight sticks for example for Jazz
5A is often used for everything from Jazz to Rock and Pop
5B is the allrounder for Rock, rehearsals and for practicing
2B is perfect for heavy rock drumming
At that there are quite a lot of sizes in between, sometimes optimized and therefore named after particular styles

The wood itself of course is an important parameter in sound and handling.
Oak is approximately 10% heavier than the often used Hickory. Therefore sticks of the same weight have a smaller diameter.
Oak's advantages are it's hardness: It is a lot more durable than hickory or maple. This means: Less breaks with rimshots and less fading with heavy cymbal playing.
Maple is about 10% lighter than hickory, what means a stick at the same weight can be built a little bit thicker.
Therefore Maple-players choose it: A comparatively thick stick with less weight.
Maple sticks are mainly used for easy and fast drumming in situations where less volume is needed.
Maple is not as durable as Hickory or Oak!
