Bush Furniture Fairview 60W Hutch for L Shaped Desk in Antique White, Attachment with Shelves and Cabinets for Home Office

Great looking furniture but it is not very sturdy. I suppose you get what you pay for. We bought this Hutch piece, along with other pieces, to complete a home office space for me and my wife. The assembly went fine, but I learned I had to reinforce the adjoining pieces with woodworkers glue and brad nails, to make everything more solid and sturdy. If you go by the instructions alone, the whole thing is wobbly. I learned this the hard way, as I had to do the assembly twice, since we needed one desk for me and a 2nd desk for my wife. The finish on this piece is laminated paper that can easily peel away if you are not careful. My wife's desk surface, which is a match to this hutch piece and also has paper laminated finish, got damaged after our son decided to use scotch tape on the desk as a staging area for an art project. When my wife put a stop to this and proceeded to remove the scotch tape off the desk's surface, she discovered that the paper laminate finish started to peel away alongside the scotch tape. Since this occurrence we have been extra careful with the desk surface and have not had any other incidents. I wish they made this line of furniture with better materials and I would gladly pay more, but again, you get what you pay for. The advertisement statements on this line of furniture from Bush are a bit misleading. They advertise furniture that is sturdy and scratch resistant but when you use their assembly instructions or use something as simple as scotch tape on the surface, these claims do not hold up.

I am happy with my desk, hutch, and lateral file. I am aware of the complaint about the cardboard backing on the hutch. But, look - we only paid $164.00 for it. My last desk set was purchased nearly 20 years ago for less than this. The backing on that hutch was also cardboard. But, that desk set carried me through 20 years as an insurance agent. The lateral itself is sturdy and will last me for many, many years. The antique white brightens up my office and the desk provides enough room to do whatever I need. My only 2 complaints - it takes FOREVER to put together and the cabinets should include at least one shelf. The response to that complaint is the end product - good, sturdy furniture and I could easily add a shelf on my own. If the cardboard backing bothers me down the road, then, I'll ask my husband to reinforce it with a piece of thin plywood. I think, though, I'll be just fine.

A bit complex to put together, but worth it. The quality and look is very nice. The value was excellent. The modular system, where you can buy different parts to the whole set, it quite convenient. The delivery of the associated bookshelves was delayed about two months, which I didn't find out about until after I paid for it. But it worked out. I really do like the desk and the file cabinet is very well made.

Cheap cardboard backing beneath shelves. Not sturdy and things do not line up that you have to piece together in many areas. No directions just pictures that take a minute to figure out. For The price it is cheaply made. Would not buy form Bush industries again. Do yourself a favor and buy a nice desk. Lesson learned

Very nice for our youngest granddaughter. She will exspand her way of learning this year entering middle school this year. We'll worth the cost.
