I've always been wanting to pick up on wood whittling, so I bought this kit as it's advertised for beginners. It has a good variety of tools, and I appreciate the inclusion of safety gloves (Though its a one size fits most kind of glove, so I'm not sure if an XL hand would fit comfortably in it). The wood that comes with it is the perfect hardness for beginners. I haven't had my tools stuck too terribly bad on the knots, as I'd see if you still aren't a pro and went to work with a denser wood, you'd risk hurting yourself. The only minor complaint would be that though there is a sheet roughly telling you everything. I expected for there to be a booklet for true beginners. But since I have experience in carpentry, the lack of such didn't hurt me.

While it doesn't really give you advice and you'll need to read or watch some guides, the product works well. I am unable to use mine any longer due to nerve issues, but when I could I really enjoyed it. The tools are sharp and the gloves protect your hands well if you are accidentally a little dumb while carving.

To be certain these are not the best knives, and they can use a little sharpening and honing out of the box, but overall, they are an excellent set for someone just wanting to try out whittling and carving for the first time. The 3 knives & 3 chisels provided are of good quality though not high end, which for the price is to be expected and the other items are a welcomed addition for a beginner like me on a limited budget. I just got the set so I cannot speak to durability but I recommend for any beginner.

Absolutely the best beginner wood carving kit, everything works well came sharp and ready and the wood was soft but solid.

This is a very fun project to do together with your kids. When we opened the package, it was very well put together, and as we took all the carving tools out, they were actually sharper than we expect! it does come with gloves which were a little big for our child’s hands, but they did work out. It’s a great little starter kit to get them going and if they have further interest buying a more sophisticated set would work as their hobby grows.

I bought this to try to start wood carving. Forgetting I’m left handed. Everything was adaptable except the hook knife. Tools are sharp and great for practicing and becoming adapted to using. So if you’re right handed.. awesome. If left handed may require some adapting to the angles. But then as a “lefty” you’re pushed to this.

I got this as a gift for my son. He really enjoys the kit and has lots of quality tools. Great value for the money. Perfect size for a 12 yr old.

Bought this for my husband as a gift and it seems like a pretty comprehensive starter kit. More knives are included than are initially required, but good to have them for the future. All the kit seems to be a fairly good quality (although I don't have much to compare to to be honest) and the included wood blocks mean that you can get started straight away. Essential to wear the protective gloves as the knives are quite sharp. Looks like it's a bit harder to whittle than my husband expected, but I'm sure he will get there with practice.
