An essential for every fiber optic toolkit
This fault locator makes it easier to spot the problem in the optical fiber. It has helped me detect poor connections and breakpoints. I have also used it to identify poor fusion splices and pinched fibers. Because of its convenient shape and lightness, the tool is really easy to use and handle. It is very practical to carry around, as I simply throw it in my toolkit with other accessories. The red laser light beam is quite powerful. It quickly illuminates any defects or breaks that may be present and traces fibers conveniently. It can smoothly switch to twinkling light, where the light blinks, and quickly turn off, which I've found very helpful. I have used VFL to spot cable runs in a patch panel and fiber enclosures and the process has been very quick. The tool came in handy in racks and serves rooms that have numerous cables that were hard to navigate. The fault locator came in secure packaging with a pair of AA batteries, and it has a sturdy metal construction, which doesn't seem easy to break. It is convenient when I place it in front of the fiber end face with zero set-ups. Definitely an essential for any network troubleshooting toolkit!

Great VFL, poor design case
As far as the VFL is concerned, this is a solid product. I am a Break fix technician in a data center and often use these to find damaged/failed LC fiber. This is a simple and easy VFL that does an excellent job showing faults and verifying routes. My only issue is that there is no place in the case to keep the end pieces. This seems like a major flaw as the case is clearly designed to be worn on a belt. It is solely the case design that earns it a 4-star rating rather than a 5.

Works well seems sturdy, labeling is a bit strange, holster leaves a bit to be desired though
The media could not be loaded. I like the look of this seems to be metal construction, simple to use and switch between modes I have used other versions of these that use a button to cycle through modes which can be frustrating. Came with a pair of AA batteries, some odd brand, one was really dented but worked. The switch has an off-middle setting, a CW setting that is constantly on though no idea what CW is meant to mean. And a glint mode which I think should say flash or blink. Has a nice door over the lens, and can take a standard ST connection which most fault locators use. This comes with an LC adaptor too though. I believe you can use the default connection through on SC connections too however I don't do that often so not sure how well works. The holster is open on the lower sides which I think makes it kind of awkward, and also lacks a spot for the adaptor, but has a belt loop. I don't really see carrying something like this on my belt unless it can carry all the accessories it needs too so that is kind of a big flaw to me. The belt loop is not velcro either so has to be fed though, I don't use these enough to ever use this but if did could see that being inconvenient also. These are nice to find breaks, and trace fibers if unsure of locations or what connections are used. Can also tell you what your polarity is as generally an SFP, etc you will need to cross the pairs over to make them link otherwise transmit and transmit hit and the same with receive and you have no connection.

Nice simple easy to use fiber tester
The media could not be loaded. Great tool to get a quick check on fiber runs. Also makes it easy to get the tx/rx right the first time on fiber cables that aren't well marked. Especially useful for tx/rx when the equipment is shut down for installation and scheduled for a later turn up.

Saves time when it is needed.
The media could not be loaded. This tool saves time looking for a defective optical cable. I worked on a concern for networking in the houses for the Trax that talk from one house to another. It took a while to find a bad cable. This tool would have made the job so much easier because could find the light on the other end if the cable is good. The cable can be bad to by not letting all the light through too.Preparedness is the key too so now I am armed with a tool. The video shows how to hook up to a optical cable and use the adapter as well. This seems to be good quality and I think the only weak part is the cap on the end of the tester. Being carefull should be letting the tester to last. I will need to remove the batteries when I am done because of leaking acid. The only thing I don't like is the holster fir the belt. Ya I don't trust it and loose a tool. That part needs to be redone for a more secured solution to hold the tool.Good Luck using this tool to also find your problem with the system your trying to find. It will help.

I found this tool incredibly useful.
I found this tool incredibly useful. As someone who frequently works with fiber optic cables, I know how important it is to have a way to quickly find and repair any damage. This tool does just that. It is easy to use and very effective. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who works with fiber optic cables.
