Great Sound Quality, Cool Functions, But Reliable? Yes!
First of all let me say I do not understand all the negative reviews this product has had. It arrived in the mail this morning and I've been testing it out for the past hour or so and the quality is great. Here is a little more detail of this product, if you are thinking about purchasing please read this review! I would give this product 4/5 stars because everything is perfect apart from I am unsure how long it will last, but I have faith that this product will last a long time. The casing of it is the TINIEST BIT loose, and I mean the tiniest bit loose. It's not even loose it's just if you actually put a strong amount of force on it you could probably pull the casing off, but this couldn't be done by accident. The USB input seems to bend also the tiniest bit, which actually fits better with my laptop, but not entirely. It works asbolutely fine and I have no worries about it. Here is a better star rating system. FUNCTIONS: ★★★★★ (Functions include muting headphones, muting microphone, and ability to turn volume down) QUALITY: ★★★★★ (Amazing quality, I was surprised considering it's a USB! Great bass & left and right centering also!) BUILD: ★★★★ (Great structure, nothing I am unhappy with, don't worry about the casing, not every product is the same!) Overall: ★★★★★ (I would recommend this even if your headphone and microphone input are working fine. There is enough (There is enough space to insert both a headphone and microphone.)

Worked for a month...
Worked very well for the first month. Like most reviewers have mentioned the sound is reversed (left ear headphone output will become right), I've heard there is a way to fix this but I have not bothered. Unfortunately after one month's use the product is malfunctioning. The sound card is causing my laptop to go in and out of mute frequently, I've noticed the lightest of taps to the sound card's mute button causes this to happen (you don't even have to press the button, just a stroke or knock will turn the laptop to mute). Pressing the button fully causes a red light to appear on the soundcard (to indicate the computer being muted), whereas touching lightly does not, so this is clearly not part of the design. I suspect the wiring was faulty. The device does feel quite flimsy and is not very sturdy in the USB slot. For the low price you cannot complain too much (you do get what you pay for), but it is obviously disappointing. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product.

Buyer Beware [Not Compatible With All Systems]
[Updated - Please see below.] I'll start off with an important warning for Windows 7 users: the Xear 3D software mentioned in the most popular review by Mr. Webb is NOT available for Windows 7. This is also the software shown in the screenshots. The software is only supported on XP and Vista and you will not be able to install it on W7, no matter what you try. I'm assuming that the drivers are automatically downloaded by the OS as there is no way to update them otherwise: driver files or setup programs will fail to detect the device or will claim that they are already up to date. That said, the thing works, but I'm not terribly impressed. I bought this to replace the USB sound card that came with my Sennheiser USB headset after it broke and detect little difference between the two, though the sound output seems harsher. The lack of any software to manage the device means that you should only use this as an adapter for using a headset via USB instead of standard audio in/out jacks. In my case this is because I get cross-feedback on the jacks. I will say that the microphone and sound mute buttons work properly, as does the volume control (which controls audio out, not in). Oh, one other note: the green audio-in port is actually yellow on the device I received. In conclusion: if you're looking for an USB adapter for your headset this is exactly what you need. Given that I detected little difference between this and a Sennheiser card, it works rather well for the price. Of course this brings me to my next and final point: if you're hoping to get quality surround sound on a stereo headset, I've got a bridge to sell you. Final Verdict: 5 stars for a product that works as it should, knocked one star due to lack of software for Windows 7 and the intentionally misleading product description. Update: After some more trial and error and with the aid of Mr. Robin Webb, I've discovered that the issue isn't as clear cut as I imagined. As it turns out, the software and drivers can be installed in Windows 7 and/or 64-bit machines, but not on all of them. Possibly due to the way my motherboard reports the device to the OS, I am unable to apply the latest drivers (even manually) or to install the accompanying Xear 3D software. As this issue was reported by some others, it seems that not every system will be able to unluck the full functionality of this device. That said, you'll still be able to use the device's basic features, including the controls, by relying on the automatically installed drivers (version 6.*), but you will not be able to use any of the software shown in the user-submitted screenshots.

Sound quality
I thought I must write a review for this item, because I was just that satisfied. I ordered another one of these devices in similar price range, I think the other was 5 quid. And it was totally worthless, I can not use it, the sound quality is despicable. So I just gave up and thought I can not get anything decent like this in this price range. But then my friend told me that he had one like this and it was perfect, just like his normal jack. I thought, why not, I'll give it a try for £2.49. And oh, lord, was it worth it? Yes. If you need a USB to jack converter, look no further. For the surprisingly low price of £2.49, this item actually works perfectly! I can only recommend it, because the sound quality IS just like from your normal 3.5mm jack out. I have not tried the microphone yet, can' comment on that. The buttons are a bit funny and do not always do the same action... wtf? But I do not care about that, after all, it is a converter not a remote control... My friend who has had it for a while now, said that the plastic cover comes apart after a while, but you can just tape or glue it back together if that should happen. Has not happened to me yet. BUY THIS PEOPLE! You will not regret it, I promise.
