You have to bear in mind that in order to achieve the claimed read/write speeds, your USB needs to supply more current. T5 used to be ok with 1A, whereas T7 works best on 2A

I can't remember disconnection, but it certainly got hot. I bought my 1TB T7 as a external boot up drive for a Mac Mini with a failing hard drive. It took a long time to copy everything from the hard drive and ran very hot. I tested the speed early on and then after fully setting up as the boot drive. The read speed is fine but the write speed has reduced from over 300Mb/s to about 50 (using a standard USB-3). In spite of that my Mac is working infinitely better than it was. You will find useful advice on forums like MacRumors, where views are split as to whether the slow write speed matters or not. I am disappointed with the write speed but pleased with the overall result.

You may want to use Disk Utility to format the whole disk as APFS and bypass the Samsung driver software ("PSSD") before you do anything else. The Samsung driver lost a whole partition, which I couldn't get back. Other than that, the device seems OK. Using m1 iMac Big Sur 11.4.
