Q: Every time I cut it leaves an impression of the die on the plastic sheet that you're supposed to sandwich with. Looks like damage, is this normal

the plastic sheet will eventually look as though it has been run over by a very large herd of very angy elephants.that is fine as long as it is still one piece of plastic just ignore it.if it sort of bends turn it over before it gets very bent to encourage it to stay flat.of couse at somepoint it willwear out but the could be years. depending on how much you use it.but if you are not running a factory and you do not really forse things throughyou should be looking at years of wear.i do find no more shims helps as you dont have to mess about getting things packed to workbut that will not affect marks on your platehope this helpsask anything else edward

Q: Does it only use Sizzex dies? I used a different make and ended up with a perfect etching on the perspex plate?

You can use other die's in the machine and all, including sizzix will etch into the plates. I try to use only the same plate for the cutting edge so you can make the most out of the plates before eventually buying new ones

Yes, the machine comes with cutting plates and the platforms.

Q: Is it necessary to use a C plate when die-cutting?

The Sizzix Big Shot does not use plates labelled A, B and C as the Cuttlebug does. The Big Shot comes with a Multipurpose Platform and 2 cutting plates. If you are asking if you must use a cutting plate when die cutting, then the answer is yes. Your die and paper, card stock or other material for cutting, is sandwiched between these 2 cutting plates. Depending on the type of die you are using you will either put this sandwich on the platform using Tab 1 or 2 and run through the Big Shot or with the Bigz dies, put the sandwich directly through the machine.
