Purchased two of these catch basins for my backyard that slopes down from the house to the edge of a forest. Whenever it would rain, there would be small puddles of water pooling in the area of my regular downspout. Bought these catch basins to drain the water away from the house. Looks nice but it is sort of a challenge trying to connect the extension hose. This catch basin itself really doesn't have to be placed into the ground unless you want it level with the surrounding area. However, in my situation, the 2-inch hose that comes with this catch basin was then attached to a 50-foot hose to drain the water away from the house. The only problem? Whoever put the initial Amazon page together was selling an extension hose that was 4-inches wide versus the 2-inches of the actual hose that came with this catch basin. READ ALL ITEMS BEFORE PURCHASE YOUR EXTENSION HOSES. After a bit of cutting and splicing and using lots of black "Flex Tape" (as seen on TV), I connected the two hoses together. Dug a foot-deep trench from the back of the house to where the extension hose ended near the forest and put wire mesh over the end of the hose to prevent little critters from crawling inside. Because my house is situated so close to the forest, I have a lot of small tree frogs, crickets, and other little crawling things always wanting to jump in puddles of water and use my downspouts as homes. I ended up buying a black mesh laundry bag which was cut down to fit over the top of the initial catch basin to keep the little critters from drowning themselves. For this purpose I bought the heavy duty "Meowoo Large Mesh Laundry Bag with Drawstring, 27×35inch". If you decide to use this mesh for the top of the catch basin, place the mesh on TOP of the basin, not underneath -- otherwise the rushing water from your downspout will push the mesh down to the bottom of the catch basin. I fastened the mesh down with twist ties all around the outside on the top and it's holding pretty good so far. Got extra mesh leftover in case I need to replace it. I like the look of this catch basis and it serves its purpose well. Just sorry that the company didn't sell a 2-inch extension hose. Oh, well ... read before buying. I do highly recommend this product if you want to keep water away from your house.

This worked as I planned in the design of my garden. I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 as the pipe could of been longer.

While I like the price and design, the top is way too fragile. If you walk on it you will go through it and in my case and where I put it I am assuming someone will step on it and could hurt themselves.

I used this for a different purpose than a downspout. Our salt water pool overflow pipe was killing plants and grass. I wanted something to divert the overflow under and away from the flower bed and lawn. This suited my purpose. I drilled a hole in the bottom of this the size of the overflow pipe and fitted this over it, caulking at the cuts. Attached the pipe and dug under the lawn to direct the water away from my nice flower bed. I also caulked at the pipe connection. Cut a hole in the decorative cover, added a double layer of landscape fabric over it then put a layer of mulch. Now you can't even see it. Worked like a charm. It's not thick plastic so no idea how durable it'll be. Also knocked a star off because the pipe they give you is pretty short and is 2" in diameter - which is impossible to find if you need more length!! Should be selling this with selectable length pipe or sell additional pipe separately.

Fantastic idea and design. I installed a new downspout and was trying to figure out how to drain the water away from the house. I saw this system on amazon and ordered it. It was easy to install and looks so nice that I put another one in at a second downspout where I used to have an above ground, flexible tube. It used to drive me crazy because the old tube looked so awful. But the new catch basin looks beautiful and works like a charm. Also, the drain tube is eight feet long but I needed twelve feet. I buried the tube in a trench and then dug a drain pit at the end.
