Depends on where you locate it, we use it on a door that swings open so its used to shut the door, it is very quiet closer.

Move the tension bar from one hole to the next. One way will make it stronger, the other way will make it weaker

Yes you are correct. I couldn't work out why door wasn't closing until I changed holes!
