Q: Do these lights come on immediately when being plugged in, or will they then have to be activated via remote?

The Christmas net lights will light up after connecting the power adapter. You can press and hold the button for 3 seconds. After the green light comes on, you will enter the 6 hour on 18 hour off mode. To switch the lighting mode, you need to press the button briefly. This net lights does not have remote control.

Q: Is there a problem with birds nesting or perching on these?

The net light has limited weight capacity and the bird could peck the wires off, and as much as I love the bird, I'd like to see it nesting on something solid!
