Top Secret (XIII)

Finally, the whole XIII series is being publishing in English (and in the US). Cinebooks has taken on the task of printing this series, with a new volume every 3-4 months. And they are coming to the US a little later after being published in the UK. At this time, 14 volumes are out.This volume moves the storyline in a different direction now that the "Conspiracy of the XX" ended with the last volume, but builds on what was left in the previous albums.For some strange reason, Cinebooks did not republish the 13th volume, which is "XIII Mystery: The Investigation", which is about 2 reporters who do an overview of the mystery, expanded on it. This is troublesome, because this album is hinted at in this volume AND a brother of one of the reporters is introduced.Frank Giordino, the corrupt NSA head, is trying to cover up his guilt at killing the President by blaming XIII. As part of this, he tries to confuse things by claimed that XIII is "really" someone else, a former IRA operative who trained under Castro.But XIII escapes thanks to the efforts of Irina, a former associate of The Mongoose, who has turned his organization into an international assassination group. She wants revenge against XIII, and uses an NSA double agent to do this. But XIII takes advantage of this, and escapes, now being tracked by both the NSA and Irina people. This will continue in the next volume, so I recommend you have them both before reading this one.

Part 14 of the XIII saga. The best thing with these books is to expect the unexpected, and as usual this edition comes up trumps in that department. We have the return of one of XIII's more difficult adversarys first seen in book 8 and now even more angry. Mind you, instead of despatching him with a bullet to the head she has him hunted down by some of her cronies in a kind of game to the death, and guess what, he escapes into the next book! What a stupid cow, ha ha.
