Fantastic game but not cheapest way to play and poor board design!
ok im gonna show my age here but i owned othello when it first came out in the uk many years ago. The board was almost identical to this one except for one crucial thing! The original had 2 clear plastic covers that spun over the chips when they were lined up at the side.So you could put the game away with all the chips/coins safely locked to the board with a flip over plastic cover. The game itself is the same . Tactile and really enjoyable . I love everything about this board , just the fact i know it used to be a better designed and less annoying set.Now when you put it away the chips are lose and kids tend to tip the lot in the box with things flying everywhere !! You can tell them 100 times they still seem to think iy will be fine tipping into a box when theyre finished ! Even adults new to it do a similar thing. When i know even as a little kid , i used to put all the chips back in the rows either side and snap shut the plastic top. We didnt even need a box it was self contained. So yeah. For me when i opened the box i was shocked it was just all loose .and it just felt cheap.A real shame, no doubt a decision to save money maximise profit.Problem is they didnt pass on their savings to the customer.Theres another version of othello on amazon that has a clever rotating chips idea. No loose pieces. Less money to buy. I avoided because this board looked like the original i knew and loved . Problem is it wasnt the same. I wish id bought the other one now. I can see me losing these chips fairly quick unless i can make evreryone remember to put everything in a bag or something.Still the games the same !! Once you start playing ill say this , it works tactile wise. It feels a bit cheap but it still manages to feel good to play.Luckily othello is an epic game.I certainly would recommend the game itself to almost anyone even very young .

Deceptively Simple
I'm really enjoying this game! I had many board games but none that were playable with just two!At first glance it seemed almost too simple, as if it were just going to be chaos and luck and not feel like a real game, however before we knew it, we were playing intense games of strategy and skill! It's super addictive and I love that even if all seems lost in the beginning of a game, there's always a chance you can make your way back for the win!

Great game. Discs can't be secured for storage
I played this maybe 30 years ago as a kid and was keen to teach my son the game. We both love it, it's a very easy game to learn but requires a bit of skill in protecting the corners and sides.Dropped 1 star because unlike the original i played all those years ago, this set does not have a rotating cover to secure all the discs during storage. As such, when you tilt the box on its side, all discs will scatter everywhere in the box. No big deal really but would of made it perfect.

Overall, a winner!
Othello is simple yet captivating. Elementary yet strategic. This game is a great choice for both kids and adults alike. A forever classic like the game of Chess. After browsing various other sellers, I chose to buy from the Ideal Store due to the price point, next day delivery and other positive reviews. The product was delivered as expected. Packaging was good and unlike some other buyers’ experience, there were no damages to the outer as well as the inner boxes. The board is neither too strong, nor too flimsy. It can withstand normal day to day handling. The felt pad is sufficient and makes the frequent picking and placing of the disks easier. The overall size of the package is also not too big so can be carried on picnics or stored discreetly at home, and really does not require a lot of space to setup and play.My 4 year old son didn’t enjoy the game first but a couple of months down the line now, he considers himself an expert and cannot live without playing with his mom or I at least once a week. It also keeps him occupied and distracts from being glued to the television set.Overall, a winner. Go for it if you are still thinking about it.Hope this review was helpful in some way.

Great game, slightly overpriced.
Overall it’s a good quality game I just think it’s a bit overpriced for what you actually get. The game used to come with covers, to stop the pieces falling out when your not using it. Also there was no spare pieces, so if you lose one you’ll have to improvise. Ignoring all that it’s a brilliant game to play.

If you love draughts, chess etc then Othello will become a firm favourite.
I got this for my partner for Christmas and she loves it. I used to play Othello as a child and loved it and thought it was one to add to our growing games collection.Othello is a brilliant strategy game and as it says, it takes a minute to learn and a life time to master. You essentially outflank your opposing colour with your counters. The game is really strategic and you can change the whole board with a few well placed counters. Children and adults can play and you can pick it up and become rather good in a few games. There is also a good handicapping system to, like giving corners away from the beginning which are very strategic squares. It has quickly become a favourite and have played twice this week already :)If you love draughts, chess etc then Othello will become a firm favourite.

Simply brilliant
This game literally does take seconds to learn and is suitable for all ages. Once we started playing we were all completely hooked. It is such a simple concept yet get your brain working. Why oh why did I not buy this sooner. I have just ordered the travel version to so that we will never be without this lol xxIf there was one point that I could make is that I wish there was a couple of spare pieces just in case

Good to play again.
Only the two of us at home for Christmas this year and I bought this to challenge my husband. I played it when I was younger but he's never played it and has now taken to looking at the box and I fear he may start to secretly practice! (smile) We can drink wine and play the game. Nice to give the TV a rest. Thank you.
