Looking forward to using this. But I felt it necessary to add short pieces of 1/2" I.D. latex rubber tubing, slipping each piece over each of the 8 screw-in round hard plastic pieces that hold the wood bowl. This should greatly improve the grip. A 1-meter piece of tubing is relatively cheap and easy to buy on Amazon. Easy to cut the short lengths with regular 8" scissors. Slips on easy and stays snug. FOLLOW UP MONTHS LATER: The cole jaws have been working well. I subsequently made additional sets of screw-in posts using acetyl copolymer round rod, also buying appropriate screw lengths on Amazon with matching thread. I used 1/2" diameter rod for 1" long posts, and 3/4" diameter for 2" long posts to hold bowls where the optimal gripping zone is a bit further from the bowl edge. I used small cutoff pieces of the latex rubber tubing on the 1/2" diameter and silicone tubing for the 3/4" because it was difficult to find the latex tubing in that ID diameter. Both work extremely well in terms of protecting the wood surface and providing a good grip on the bowl.

Overjoyed with my purchase! This chuck (who shall henceforth be referred to as “Chuck”) has impressed me at every opportunity. Considering Chuck’s sturdiness and quality, the price is very reasonable. Chuck will likely outlive the every other tool I’ve bought for my lathe (Including the lathe). I’ve had a few accidental flying bowls and exploding sticks, but Chuck don’t care. Chuck remains strong. Chuck keeps doing what Chuck’s always done. Holding secure and looking good whilst doing it. We should all strive for a fraction of the strength Chuck possesses. Also Chuck has a fantastic box and is very well presented. Chuck has increased my capabilities as a wood turner and I eagerly look forward to using Chuck in future projects.

Works exactly as advertised. Minimal issues. Loosens occasionally but thats inherently an issue with 99% of scroll chucks. Would buy again

Got these as the chuck they fit came with the flatter jaws. Been using them a lot (entirely in fact) for drilling pen blanks on the lathe. Way better and more accurate than doing it on the pillar drill and I'm aware these jaws have other uses which I've yet to explore. A good purchase and I may get the third type of jaws to complete the accessories for this chuck.

Perfect for a small wood lathe, heavier than expected. Had to make a thread adapter for my ancient lathe, but turned out good.
