Review: This is really helpful for language beginners as dictionary and reference book Review: I studied German for a short time about 50 years ago when in Zurich. Then I learned enough to pass language requirement for a degree. After many years I decided to start again and have been taking on-line lessons for over a year. That is, I have some limited knowledge - Ich spreche ein bischen Deutsch. I do like the language for its resemblance to English and its, for me, quirky structure. This is where the books comes in. I am a pretty good visual learner so I appreciate the pictures and the visualization of words and pronunciation. It is something I have been missing. The illustration shows how I am approaching this. I am on my first run through. I am just colouring in the items that I know well and have been using. Then, as I master other words and structure I will go through again and addd those. So, for me, it is good reminder of what I do and don't know. I also like the structure by topical area which makes for easy reference when I do need a reminder - usually on gender status or pronunciation.

I was unsure that I would make the best use of a colouring book, as an adult. How wrong can you be? This lovely book is so well designed with a short basic grammar section at the front followed by double pages with an illustration on the right with a number key, and the key on the left, plus two or 3 additional sentences as examples. I am returning to German after a course 12 years ago, having not had much practise for a long time. Instead of just learning the list of words on one page, then the next. I am working my way through fairly quickly checking out the drawings for words that come to mind immediately and marking them with a yellow pen. Then checking them against the key and ticking each number in yellow also. When I have finished this I will then start learning the new words and revising the old ones. BTW there is also a link to a really helpful free e-book on the first page. Apologies for the poor photos!
