This is a very informative book.
The way the author put it togeather is splendid. His information is superb. A great addition for atone that is interested in astronomy.

A joy to read
The book is a pleasure to read. I bought it to get a feel for some of the orbiting obervatories capabilities and in particular Chandra's X-ray contributions. Of course, we're more familiar with Hubble's mission, and everyone is looking forward to seeing some of the discoveries of the James Webb Observatory, but it seems now is the time to appreciate Chandra, Spitzer, etal.. Wallace Tucker writes well and takes the reader through the development, deployment and discoveries of Chandra with vivid images and excellent descriptions.

I've read quite a bit on astronomy...
I've read quite a bit on astronomy but this is the first book that I've read on X-ray astronomy. Though I've encountered the topic of X-ray astronomy in other books, Chandra's Cosmos covers this thoroughly. It's fascinating to learn how much of our Cosmos is comprised of X-rays and what the mechanisms are that drive them. At some points the author gets into considerable detail about low- mid- and high-energy X-rays and X-ray fluorescence. It's a little more than I needed but not at all overwhelming. The only complaint I have about the book is that the hardcover edition is printed on matte paper and the colors, in what would otherwise be beautiful photographs, just aren't there. On a more positive note, the photos are composite images, showing X-ray, optical, and infrared radiation merged into a single image; quite stunning.

Interesting but Technical
I am only about one-third of the way through the book. I am familiar with Hubble images and was curious about what is being learned from the Chandra telescope. I am finding the book to be interesting and informative, but it is rather technical - probably not something that a typical high school student would enjoy. By technical I do not mean that there is mathematical material involved, but that it would be helpful to have a general understanding of relativity theory.

X-Ray Universe
I really enjoyed this book as it contained a lot of information that was new to me, delivered with a clear explanation of the major increase in understanding that observations in the X-Ray spectrum bring to astrophysics by the scientist who ran the Chandra telescope. I’d recommend this book to any reader of astrophysics.

It was a good textbook for her as it went into Dark Matter ...
Bought this book for my 11 year old granddaughter for a school project. It was a good textbook for her as it went into Dark Matter in depth. Very good illustrations.
