I absolutely love this style. The cozy / soft underside of the strap has prevented blisters or rubbing when the sandals are new. My feet tend to blister really easily too, esp. in hot weather. The style is a narrower cut, even in the non-narrow option, so for those of us women with long narrow feet they are a great style, because the narrower foot bed and also the long narrow strap up the center, really shows off a long lean foot and may even inspire a little pedicure treat! I have been wearing this exact style and colour of Birkenstock sandal for nearly a decade. This pair is my third pair, which speaks to how long they last! In fact, you can see in one of my photos my five-year-old pair. Other than adding cork sealant (see MAINTENANCE below) I have not had any updates to soles or cork. They are still holding together beautifully and super comfy, but a are being relegated to garden and chicken-yard use now. :) I tend to wear a US size 12 and the 43 is perfect, remembering they do compress with wear, so your feet with "snuggle" down into the foot bed with time. That said, you do NOT want your toes to press out over the front ridge, or your heel the back as this will wear on the structure of the sandal. As far as Birkenstocks as a brand, I find they've maintained their quality over the years--hooray! And the price on this product was wonderful. MAINTENANCE: The one item you might want to have on hand is cork sealer to repaint on the sides of the cork footbed a time or two every season, this keeps the cork sealed and moist so it doesn't split and dry out. I have always used Kelly's Cork Renew and it's worked great, though there are lots of options out there. Just follow the instructions on the bottle, and be sure that that includes really letting the seal dry before taking them out for a walk, I'd recommend overnight (10-12 hours).

I have flat feet, and recently had an ankle surgery that I am still recovering from. With a family vacation coming up - and lots of walking to look forward to - I needed a sandal that I could wear for hours without discomfort. I hesitated to buy a "Birkenstock" sandal (No "hippies" in this house!), but the reviews won me over. So glad I took the plunge! First, shipping was faster than anticipated - they arrived 2 days earlier than stated. Next, yes, they were a little stiff when I first slipped them on. But I knew better than to try wearing them for long periods of time until they were broken in. After wearing them every few days for an hour or two at a time, they are getting more and more comfortable. I fully expect to be able to do miles of walking without any aches in my feet or ankles. And these are far more stylish than they typical Arizona-style Birk. I can wear them with jeans, dresses, or shorts, and they are CUTE! Well worth the $$. I KNOW I'll be buying more next summer. PS - I bought the color "Graceful Licorice". It's black. Not as shiny as patent, but not a flat black. I'd call it a satin black.

Go size smaller!! I wear 8 to 8 1/2 I need a 38 in women's Birkenstock. Love these shoes! They are helping my back and legs and hips and cute. Toe post taking some getting used to as it is very thick. This is my first try with Birkenstock. I got carried away and ordered 3 pair(2 styles) which are all too big because I ordered the 39(which shows it SHOULD be right). I am urging my daughter with bigger feet to wear them as I can't return them after wearing(please don't you do it either.. GROSS)** I have now gotten 3 pairs of the 38M and they are perfect for me where the toe bar hits and just enough room in footbed. Free shipping and returns with Amazon means you should try a couple sizes to be sure. When they fit the way they should these shoes are incredible once you get them broken in.

A few weeks ago my husband and I did a ton of walking in London and I injured my foot. My doctor suggested I wear Birkenstocks because they have a stiffer sole, so I ordered the Gizeh because I really liked the style (I got them much cheaper through Amazon). I chose the Onyx because I could not decide between black or silver and I'm glad I did. The Onyx is a dark silvery gray and they go with everything. The first time I wore them out I got a compliment from a stranger. A few things about the comfort of these sandals. When you initially wear them they feel stiff/hard and the piece that goes between the toes was uncomfortable for me even though I'm used to wearing flip-flops. I knew about these issues beforehand from reading other reviews, so I stuck with them and wore them around the house everyday. After less than 2 weeks they became the most comfortable pair of sandals I've ever owned, even with my high arch. I ordered the regular width and they are just right with my narrow heel and slightly wide toes. I wear these constantly, even around the house instead of going barefoot because they're more comfortable. I wasn't sure what size to order because I normally wear 7.5 and a 38 in European styles (my Naot Kirei are 38). Other reviewers said to go down a size, so I ordered a 38 and a 37. The 37's are perfect. I plan to order more of these in other colors. I LOVE them and highly recommend!! **** UPDATE **** After wearing these sandals constantly they still look great and feel amazing, so I ordered another pair. My sister-in-law tried them on and loved them so much she ordered 2 pairs. She did comment on the piece between the toes and I told her it had bothered me too but I got used to it. It's definitely worth breaking in these sandals.

Nice shoes but they were to big. I ordered a 7 and they seemed to be a size 8. I had to rerun them.
