I've been wanting a notebook or journal with black paper pages for a while, just because. (Something to add to the collection of journals I keep accumulating but never use.) I've saved this item for later a hundred times because something is always more pressing, but I finally decided to give myself a li'l treat, and went ahead and got this. I thought I'd just be getting a regular old journal, but was very surprised to see that this was very much a step above. First of all, the book comes in a very nice, solid box, not just wrapped in plastic. The box is very sturdy cardboard, glittery black, with a foil-embossed design on it. I'm absolutely keeping the box for...something, it doesn't matter what because it's really quite nice. I would have zero issues with giving this as a gift. On opening the box, the journal itself is wrapped in tissue. It has an elastic pen loop and two ribbon bookmarks. The paper is lovely and smooth, with a nice weight and thickness. The grid dots are printed with a faint, silvery-gray ink that is visible but not distracting. The cover is the only thing that I have a small issue with. The endpapers are light cardboard that isn't glued and pressed to the cover as firmly as it should be. I just got this today, and the corners of the endpapers are already coming unglued. I can fix this myself, but that was a bit of a disappointment to see. Everything else with the There were some nice extras in the box: a foil-embossed bookmark, and some planner stickers that I wasn't expecting. All in all, I'm quite happy with the journal for myself. I fell in love with Archer and Olive black paper journals a few years ago, but the A&O journals have linen covers that, while beautiful, aggravate my sensory sensitivity issues. The cover of this journal, by contrast, is smooth and doesn’t irritate at all. Love the embossed design, too! No numbers on the inside (which I appreciate but know some people prefer numbers); dot grid is clear but not distracting; the pages are thick enough to handle Gelly Roll pens, gouache paints, and even metallic watercolors, with only light warping (and no bleed) on the watercolors. Incredible value (and much easier on the wallet than most black paper journals) — I’m halfway through this one, and I think this will definitely be my go-to journal to purchase again when my current one is full.

I actually felt happiness while opening this package. It already seemed like a good purchase, but it proved way more than I expected. First, it came in a custom box with a gold embossed copy of the logo on the notebook. The notebook itself is wrapped in a nice protective paper with a holographic seal holding it shut. Not only does this box include the notebook pictured at the site, but it also contains three sheets of stickers (some decorative, some practical and useful) and a black bookmark. Even before you open the notebook, it feels like you bought something that goes the extra mile. The notebook itself is also so much nicer than was expected. The covers are hard -- beyond what you would expect even from a hardcover book. They are safe from water and the logo is nice and subtle. The pages are a very dark black, and the dots on the page are just the right shade to make them seem hardly there but still offer what you need to write straight. Flexing the pages feels just as regular paper does, but the general texture of the paper's surface has a hint of something extra in the paper - but just a hint. There are two bookmark strips built into the book (one black, one gold) and a black stretchy pen holder is built into the book. The only disadvantages, if you can call them that, are that (a) you may want to fold back the gold bookmark fabric strip to stay 100% black (or cut it out), and (b) when you open the book as wide as it opens, you can see white binding material deep between the pages. Again, it is 100% functional, but it makes the book only 99.9% black. This notebook is a delight, and I think this is the first time I ever wrote a review for anything but warning people about bad products. This purchase could not have been better. I actually feel guilty about getting so much happiness from a material object. If it holds up over time, I plan on buying a lot of these.

This black paper notebook is stunning! The packaging is elegant, and the notebook itself feels high-end with its sleek design and high-quality paper. The pages are thick and smooth, perfect for gel pens and metallic markers, with no bleeding or ghosting. My only complaint is the dotted grid—it’s much whiter than in Archer & Olive notebooks, making it more noticeable than I’d prefer. A subtler grid would improve the experience. This is a beautiful book. It is well worth the price and the fact you are supporting a small business. It has a smooth feel to it and if you have lotion on or any creams on your hands it will leave a few fingerprints. They aren’t as noticeable in person as they are in the picture. The book is extremely well made and has plenty of pages to do whatever you want in. It is thicker than I would have thought, it is the perfect size. I haven’t been able to find a dot journal that is of this quality for this price anywhere. Will definitely recommend and will purchase again in the future. Great job to the shop who crafted such a beautiful book. It comes well wrapped and with stickers. The box has the beautiful tree but is also sparkly ( which you can’t really tell in the picture. The box is very hard and sturdy. Ur journal will be safe in it for years to come!

I rarely write a review, even though I order a ton off Amazon. I was so taken back by how beautiful this notebook is the paper is thick and the gel pens I used did not smudge or bleed. It’s durable and sturdy. The book is amazing quality and the cute box it came in was absolutely stunning. It’s an amazing price which ultimately led me to choose over the other brands and I am glad I did. Will definitely be purchasing a few more journals from this company!

My package arrived undamaged and on time. This is my first black paper dot grid journal and I already want another. I wanted to try the one made by Archer & Olive, it is always sold out whenever I check. I am happy with my purchase from Buke. The journal comes in a black box decorated with borders, a tree in the center surrounded by planets and stars. There are three sheets of stickers, a pen loop you can place where ever you like and a book mark. Mine says Stop Wishing Start Doing #bukenotebook I chose the journal with the moon and stars on the cover. The journal has a hard cover that feels soft to the touch. It does have an elastic band. The paper feels smooth, but is not slick or shiny. The dots are easily visible but not bothersome. I counted 39 spaces down the side and 26 spaces across. It will lay flat once you flip through & run your hand down the center. I can see the sting that binds the journal 10 times throughout in my copy because it is light colored. At present it doesn’t matter and if it ever does, I will color it. There is a pocket on the back cover and two ribbons one black & one gold. The first page is the name page and the very next page is dot grid and they move together. This is a problem for me as I do not like when that happens. It is the same at the back of the journal. I will lose two dotted pages to correct this irritation. That might not be something that bothers you. It is my reason for four stars instead of five. Another reviewer mentioned how the paper reacted to washi tape and that person is correct. Washi does damage the paper if you try to reposition it so be sure of your placement if you choose to use it. In my photo the top left corner the tape was placed and removed with no attempt to lessen the stickiness. The bottom left washi was tapped on my pants a couple of times and that did not help. Hopefully you can see the damage around the top piece of washi. There is no ghosting that I can see. Not even the colored Sharpies bled through. I can barely see the places where I wrote with the Sharpies and that’s because the colors are dark. The Uniball gold did not dry as fast as the white and silver and so transferred when I closed the journal. The Decoshine ink did not show up until dry. It was the same with the milky colors. The Gelly Roll pens were supposed to be different colors. They all look gold to me. Against the paper it looks good.

This hardcover notebook is beautiful. Excellent quality. The pages are very black and I love the box it came in! I definitely recommend this!
