English for Cabin Crew

Several things that I like about this textbook are as follows: The presentation of the text and photos is well-done. I like the sequencing of the lessons from pre-flight to in-flight, to passenger farewells. The lessons also provide sufficient practice prompts for listening and speaking. I also like the "Self Study" section at the back of the book which offers follow up re-enforcement practice for homework after each lesson.I would add that this book would serve its users best by using it with a knowledgeable tutor, private teacher, or coach who has some familiarity with the job tasks of a flight attendant. Reason is that the lessons don't have a lot of depth to them. For example, in the chapter of in-flight emergencies, a teacher has to know about Mayday and PAN-PAN-PAN emergencies and how to describe the difference between the two. A knowledgeable teacher will be able to assign additional work to students that will expand the depth of each lesson; for example, report on two emergencies that have occurred in past, one Mayday and one PAN-PAN-PAN. The teachers' use of a Flight Attendant Manual would serve well in such cases.In Chapter 1, there is no mention of in the pre-flight briefing of emergency equipment checks. I would include from the F/A Manual the descriptions of emergency equipment and where it is usually located and how to use the equipment.I believe this book was designed primarily for trained cabin crew who need to improve their English for their job tasks, but it could be used with untrained, aspiring flight attendants too.I would also have included another chapter on airline interviews and included language necessary to be successful in interviews.Overall, the book is well done and I would highly recommened it. It was written by experts in the field of aviation language training.
