Great for hanging a plate from the wall.
Very useful if and when you want to hang a decorative plate on the wall.

Made from much heavier material than expected.
I was looking for a hanger that was sturdy enough and wide enough for a 15 inch platter. This did the job. The hanger fits snug to the platter and the ends are covered with plastic so the platter doesn't chip. It even came with a hook and nail to hang it up quick.

Very pleased to find this larger size holder cause I couldn't find them in the stores. Very sturdy

Hook/Fastener are not the best
This has some great features, like plastic coated ends so that it will not damage the plate, but as some others have said in their reviews the hook on the back of the plate that hooks to the fastener in the wall aren't quite right. I think the fastener is a little small and thus when you hook the plate to the wall, the plate sticks out at the bottom. We used another fastener into the wall, a larger one, and then it hooked ok and was flat to the wall. The plate that we were holding as 11" and that all worked well and fit well to the plate. Our plate was not heavy -- the small fastener that they provided would not work for a heavier plate, but would require going to the hardware store for a larger wall hanger hook, similar to what you use for a picture frame. Hope that makes sense.

Not for shallow bowls/deep plates!
Those of you looking to hang a large "can't decide if it's a more of a plate or more of a bowl"-type dish, beware!I purchased a lovely 19.5-inch diameter redware dish and wanted to hang it on the wall. Went on Amazon, found this product, and read the reviews - after being warned by other reviewers about the flimsy springs, I also purchased some picture-hanging wire at the same time to reinforce the springs (since my dish is ceramic and weighs about 8-9lbs). Product arrived in good condition, it attached to the plate in seconds, and the rubbery tubing on the hooks protected the plate from scratches. However, I can't use it.My dish is deep if you call it a "plate," shallow if you call it a "bowl." The vertical height when it's resting flat (the "depth," if it were hanging on a wall) is about 3.5 inches. The inner, "bowl" portion of the dish is flat and is about 12 inches across, then the sides gently taper out to the full diameter of 19.5 inches. This hanger fits around the dish perfectly - easy to attach, but nice and snug - but it's impossible to hang it on the wall due to where the fixed metal portion of the hanger meets the spring portion. If my dish were shallow - a flat plate - it'd be fine, but given my platter's depth the springs wrap over the entire flat, inner portion and halfway up the sides. This means the metal curve on the hanger (the place you'd hang the assembly onto the hook/nail in your wall) "hits" at a place to make hanging possible. I'd have to use a very long nail and have it sticking out 2 inches from the wall if I wanted the flat portion of my dish to rest flat against the wall. And that would make me nervous, because drywall isn't sturdy.I think if the fixed metal "prongs" on the back of the hanger were longer, long enough to hit the deepest portion of the platter, then it would work. But if I tried to hang it the way it is now, with a normal nail-sticking-out-length of half an inch or so, my dish would jut out at a very awkward-looking angle (nowhere even close to being flat against the wall)...basically the same angle as if I placed the dish in a plate-stand, but on the wall. So, I'll keep looking around for plate hangers with longer hook-ends to see if that works, and I'll update this review if I'm successful, because I can't imagine I'm the only person with this problem!UPDATE 8/20/2015 - I got it to work!! And I'm *very* glad Amazon's allowing me to add photos to this review, because it'd be a total pain to describe in words. If you check out the pictures, you'll see how I did it. Basically, I first reinforced the springs with heavy-duty picture hanging wire (the full length of each spring, connecting top-prong to bottom-prong), then created a new "hanger" out of the wire and wrapped it around and around itself for strength. The trick is to position the new hanger just barely above where the flat underside of the platter ends. I tugged hard on the crafted hanger (with much more force than gravity would exert), and it held fast. Nailed a 50-lb (just to be safe) hanging hook to the wall, took a deep breath, and hung the platter. Been on the wall for several weeks now with no problems - it lays flat, looks great!Keeping the review at 3 stars due to the required jerry-rigging.UPDATE 2/06/2018: Still hanging strong, zero problems, perfectly stable! (just in case anyone's wondering how my modified solution holds up over time!)

Homeowner Suffers Major Plant Carnage After Decorative Plate Hanger Fails.
See the largest plate up there.... top right? That's the 15" plate I used this hanger (the 14 to 18 inch one) to secure to the wall. The contraption seemed a bit loose, but I checked it and checked it to make sure it was good after I got it up on the wall and it seemed secure. Well that sucker crashed down from there about 15 minutes later, obviously taking a few things with it when it did! It broke several glass planters and smashed my Christmas Cactus and giant aloe plant. Miraculously the 15" plate survived! My guess is that the plants cushioned the blow. The spring plate hanger boing-ed off about two feet away and was still in one piece, ready for another try. Luckily no one (cat) was hurt, and after all the glass shards got cleaned up things are back in order. Was it user error? I don't know. I like to think of myself as mechanically inclined and I thought I could spot whether the thing was on there properly.... It's back up there now after some tweaking of the hooks that go around the front of the plate. I bent them with a needle nose plier so that the hooks went over the front much further and bent the part that goes over the nail in the wall so that the plate lays flat with the new adjustments to the hooks.

Better Houseware, Platter & Tray Hanger
I needed plate hangers to accommodate 14'' trays. I read a variety of reviews about different plate holders. Most reviews were awful. Then, I found a company called, Better Houseware. It carries Platter & Tray Hangers. I purchased 4. Each: fits platters & trays 10 to 16'', has cushioned plastic covered gripper hooks that protect the platter/tray from being scratched & mounting hardware. The reviews were positive EXCEPT about the mounting hardware.I agree. The mounting hardware appeared flimsy. My concern was that the trays would fall off the wall. I substituted different nails Each accommodates 10 lbs. of weight. My trays are secure.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company & its platter/tray hangers. Note: there are a variety of sizes.I DO NOT recommend using the mounting hardware that is included.
