Rugged beauty with tensile strength like steel!
It can be a very hard thing with which to come to terms, but I am at an age when a walking support, such as a cane or walking stick, can become useful, even necessary. Well, it turned out that the very first ones I looked at also happened to be the best ones. I’m talking about Brazos Walking Canes, and what they call their Derby Cane in particular. That’s the one I bought, and I am truly in love with it! It’s a beautiful beast of a walking cane/stick.In my view, the Derby Cane is THE BEST (as well as the slickest looking!), for one reason: hickory, Hickory, HICKORY!! We’re talking good ol’ Texas hickory at that! Hickory has unsurpassed strength, density, stiffness and shock resistance—all the virtues that I want in my walking cane. With a Janka hardness rating of up to 2,000 lbf, this makes it one of the very hardest and most durable woods in the U.S. Importantly (to my mind, at least), it also makes this walking cane a formidable weapon in self-defense situations (even though it’s not made specifically for that purpose). For whether using it defensively or offensively, it it VERY unlikely that it would ever break, because it boasts a tensile strength that rivals steel. (You read that right—steel!)No one would ever mistake it for a self-defense weapon, however, because it has such an elegant and rustic beauty. Honestly, it looks like a work of art, and it IS, for each one is hand made, hand carved, hand sculpted. (Each and every cane has a 2-page “tag” tied to the top of it, which includes, among other things, the name of the individual craftsman who made it. Mine, for example, was crafted by Daniel Anz, who had been working at Brazos for over 10 years. Excellent job, Daniel, and thank you for your skill and artisanship!)Perhaps needless to say, given all the individual attention and skill put into it, the cane is an absolute pleasure to hold. Holding it by the handle is extremely comfortable in the hand, as is holding it, say, mid-way up the shaft when just carrying it. Every part of the cane feels not only solid but silky smooth and luxurious. Each cane comes with a rubber stopper at its end, for greater stability and control. It can be removed (for example, if you needed to shorten the stick a bit), but I would encourage you to keep it on, especially for indoor floors and any slick surfaces outside. My stopper blends right in with the wood, so I barely notice it.The craftsmanship on the “Derby Cane” is so well done that it feels like a natural extension of my arm. And though it has a rugged look (that I really like), it nonetheless has a luxurious feel from top to bottom. It is worth every dollar I paid for it—in fact, given the relatively high cost of hickory wood, I would honestly consider this gorgeous cane a bargain! As you can no doubt tell, I have no constructive criticisms to offer. As an avid woodworker myself, I can find nothing to complain about. The craftsmanship is THAT good. And I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this very same walking cane again. I hope this review was helpful, and best of luck with your shopping!

Incredible and Unique Walking Stick
I own a variety of canes and walking sticks. Included are 3 different walking sticks from Ireland made from Blackthorn. What is important to me is quality, strength, sturdiness, thickness and length. But an added factor is uniqueness. Well, this particular walking stick/cane checks all the right boxes for me and it’s unique in that it does not look like a medical device! I followed the guidelines so I ordered the right length for 6’. This cane is perfect. This cane has a 90 degree bend at the top which is important to me for as a great hand hold for balance. Each of these canes are unique and one of a kind.. it’s luck of the draw in that this item can not be specified in the order regarding to thickness or the angle for the top. Some websites that offer similar canes do have these options, but they can be more pricey and they give you the ability to order specific wood options. Either way, I am very happy to what I received!

Great product, terrible website.
I love my new cane. Looks great and the Hickory is solid and stable. I tried to register it for warranty purposes and the website doesn’t work for me. I clicked on the “Contact Us” page and it says to fill out the short form… there is NO form to fill out! The warranty policy page is also not working. Love the product but hate the fact that they are lacking in support.

A bit more curvy and twisted than I expected but it is a great cane
This is a great buy for the money. Of course since this cane is made out of real branches every cane will be different but the finish and the quality of the hardwood is excellent. It was a little thicker at the thinnest end at about one inch than I expected. The only downside of this cane and the reason why I didn't give five stars was it was a little too curvy and twisted for me out of the box. I have a feeling that a lot of other folk would be fine with the curves thinking it just adds character. But I like a straighter stick.I steamed the cane and straightened out on my own. The steam only caused some slight damage to the finish which I don't mind. It now just looks like I've used it for years. If you don't have a steaming setup at home, you could just as easily use a heat gun to straighten out your own cane.

Works well and is very pretty and sturdy.
We keep this in the auto to help while walking into places. It looks great and is very sturdy. Hubby is a big guy but he is very steady using this cane. It fits his hand well which gives him a great grip and he can place the handle on a table. Without putting the cane on the floor. His hand doesn’t slide off the handle as it would if using a ball type. Great transaction, would buy it again.

Simple elegant in a rustic sort of way...
...handle is perfect for me so is size I'm 5' 9" tough wood was a bit dusty when it came in easily cleaned slight fissure partway down the stick but keeps in with the rustic issue.. American made can't beat that. Could have used a tie drilled partway down to hang on door or gym equipment for convenience but not a deal breaker. Better than aluminum or steel more character. Reasonable non-slip clear coat on stick. I'm good with this. Attacked with covid and norovirus a number of times so helps with balance (nerve damage) not strength issue as I do gym work. Just gives me an extra amount of security with balance issues.
