Beautiful book which I purchased for a dear friend as a present. This book does not tell you how to reno an old home, but shows how Martha renovated one of her beautiful homes. Exquisite photos. Definitely eye candy and full of ideas.

This was a birthday gift for my mother, a contractor and designer for the past forty years. She already knew the book but had worn out her copy largely by using it to help her clients understand the processes and possibilities. My mother isn't easy to please, and she requested this book as a keeper.

Bought for my wife for ideas to renovate a Victorian house we have bought. She looks through it every day an is very excited to try the best things.

This book is very detailed with beautiful pictures of Martha's renovation of her first house. No matter what you may hear of her, the book will be very useful if you are renovating an old house. It made me wish that I had taken pictures of my own renovations 14 years ago. I got the book because I still own older houses and may need more advice of how to do repairs.

I was actually quite impressed with the level of detail that was put into this book. Even though she herself did not do the actual heavy bits of restoration, she provides in detail what was actually done on her New York farmhouse and illustrates it with some pretty nice photos. I'm pleased and the shipment was fast. Thanks!

On one hand I liked seeing step by step how an old run down house was saved and restored (be kind to your handy man and all contractors-- they're heroes) but I really didn't like how Martha kept reminding the readers in what seemed to be every chapter how tacky the previous owner was. That didn't seem particularly kind and it was not necessary to the success of the book.

CLASSIC. Must-have. She used to be so cute.
