INVOPAK 30 Litre Plastic Blue Open Top Barrel with Lid & Ring

This is a great product if you've got 30L of stuff that you need to store in an ait-right container, including any food-stuffs. 30L is a reasonable size but, depending on what you're storing it may not be as big as you might hope. e.g. Flour tends to pick up a lot of air as its poured into the container which increases the colume quite a bit. Bumping the container can settle it a bit, but it's not as easy as you might think (maybe static in the plastic barrel exacerbates the problem). Corarser stuff (like bird seed) flows easily and takes up a predictable volume. The lid forms a good seal. The metal fastener can be a bit of a struggle to get in place but gets easier with practice and doesn't need too much strength to close it. The carry-handles are very sturdy and well placed. Depending on what you've pt inside they can get quite heavy, but the handles are easily up to the task. They are neatly stackable and easy to put two barrels high, feeling stable when in place. Three high would likely require lifting above shoulder height and could be a bit trickier. All things considered, a great product at doing what it's designed for, and at a reasonable proice too.

The first thing I did when this storage barrel arrived (after filling it with flour) was to order two more. What better recommendation? Since lockdown I have got into baking our own bread. We are lucky enough to have an excellent local flour mill and it is far cheaper to buy flour in bulk as well as getting much better quality than the stuff available in supermarkets. The main problem is storage. 16kg paper sacks of flour are cumbersome and space consuming and if one develops a split, it makes an awful mess. These barrels are very sturdy without being too heavy in themselves and surprisingly compact considering the amount of flour they can hold. I am 72 years old and no Charles Atlas but can easily lift one of these barrels when full of flour. A 16kg sack of flour fits into this 30 litre barrel with plenty of room to spare. Despite the description "Open Top" which initially put me off (I think this refers to the fact that the barrel is open at the top for filling), the barrel comes with a tight fitting lid, perfect for storing flour. All in all, a great solution to what is a difficult storage problem in an ordinary home.

With regular difficulty buying bread flour, I bought 16kg bag but was concerned about hygiene once opened. After looking on loads of options on amazon, this make of product -Oipps-seemed to have the best overall reviews and their website itself of manufacturers/company seemed to be giving valid certified assurances of the food safety element of the plastic. One of my concerns buying a large plastic container was that anyone can post anything and say anything generally speaking, in theory, so when it comes to food safety you need to do your own checks. This make seems very good and fully certified. The 16kg bag of flour certainly fits into the barrel, but as others have mentioned, you do need to shape the bag as it goes in as the opening is narrower than barrel, unless just pouring directly in. Once in, which didn't seem too difiicult, only took son couple minutes, it fits perfectly with space at top for scoop. The metal seal which you pull clasp to close (similar to a cake tin) took several seconds to line up properly but once on rim, was easy to do. I do have slight concern about how long this clasp will last. Not because it is flimsy or anything as it isn't, however, the force you need to close it, I wonder how many times it will happily fo that as we bake bread at least every other day, sometimes every day. Though as I just type this, I suppose it would make sense to get a smaller container to put a couple of KG of flour in so that we reduce how oftenwe need ti open/shut it. When it arrived we let it air for a few hrs, though there was barely any plastic smell anyway. I think these are perfect for storage for things like rice, flour, dry dogfood, etc. I intend to buy several,one per month or so, to build up a pantry of basics of the sort that can be difficult to find during these times and that can last a year or so. Highly recommend. For me personally, I have some physical restrictions, and it is a tad (only a teeny tad) difficult to use enough force to close metal seal. However, that makes me feel confidant at how airtight the container is. Great buy, definately worth the money as if the clasp lasts (I may enquire into buying spares just in case) then this can do the job for years I would think.
