Q: Can this be installed without the Base Plate?

Yes, we used it without the base plate. We have purchased two of these faucets, and they both installed very easily without the base plate.

Q: What size is the hole cover plate?

The hole is 1 1/4". The cover plate is 9 1/2X2 1/4......I have not installed it yet, but it is absolutely GORGEOUS. I also got the sink drain. It, too is amazing. Even the packaging is first class...each part in a cloth bag.

Q: What is the total height of this faucet minus the base? How far does out does the arm go?

The opening of the spout is 7" above the base bottom without a base. With base 7-1/4". The spout has a loop that reaches 2" more for a total of apprx 9-1/2" ht. From center of facet riser(vertical pipe) to center of spout opening is 6".
