Self Study as a means to Loosen up your playing Style
Hal Leonard Publishing can always be trusted, and in this two-book series, they have done a great job of relating scale practice to the structure of chords. If you, like me, are returning to the piano after a break, and the first time around you skipped over scale practice, now you get a second chance. You already know how to read music. Now, learn to use the Circle of Fifths, chord building, and -- most fun of all -- accompanying singers or musicians. These two books will get you away from the prison of reading-only, and allow you to play for fun.

Great for first or second year students!
I had previously picked up this book for a piano student of mine since I couldn't find the book I had for teach scales. I have since found that book, and I realized that I like this book much better. It is easier for a young student, and helps the student understand why scales are important through improv studies.

Terrible Kindle Version of a good book
As a teacher, the Kindle version of this book is nearly useless. Since all my students possess the print version, of course, we use page numbers. However, the Kindle version doesn't have page numbers. It's also irritating (for a music book) that the exercises in the same key don't naturally stay together on a page. A little fiddling with print size gets you close - but - a "print replica" kindle version would have been much better for a book like this.

Make sure the description mentions audio. My book came with out.
The description doesn't even mention that there is a version with audio available. I guess i should have researched more.
